**Unit/Project Description**:
As the largest Faculty, with approximately 8,000 undergraduate students enrolled in 100+ undergraduate programs and 215+ faculty members, the Faculty of Science is an integral part of McMaster University.

Structured around three core service pillars (career, cooperative education and experiential education), we empower students to gain professional experience, understand labour market trends, develop viable career plans and successfully transition from education to career.

We deliver a range of programming including a range of career workshops and industry events, a career preparation course, Skills for Career Success in Science, and provide one-on-one appointments.

Committed to ensuring our science students are career ready on graduation, we are highly innovative in our approach and are in the midst of several new initiatives to better serve our students, including Design Your Science Career, inspired by the highly successful Stanford Design Your Life model and The Science Career Competency Framework project.

We have an opening in our Career team. We are looking for someone who is as committed to student career success as we are. Our Career Resource Coordinator (Working Title: Career Education Coordinator) will assist us by supporting the development of our SciPHI Program (Science Peer Help Initiative), a program that’s designed to upskill students to so they can provide employability career services (resume and cover letter advice, review and feedback, mock interview guidance and feedback) and provide general career resources and tools.

**Job Summary**:
Responsible for the coaching and advising of students regarding career development skills and processes. Provide informed and responsive job search support to a diverse group of students and alumni. Enhance and promote career development services, co-operative education opportunities and employer related events and activities. Provide co-ordination for daily operations, activities, events and counselling services.

**Purpose and Key Functions**:

- Develop, maintain and coordinate resources, materials, library and website content of the Centre.
- Research and retain information on current job openings, employment trends, emerging careers and educational requirements.
- Facilitate student orientations and workshops on topics such as resume writing and interview preparation.
- Coach and advise students on career development skills and processes such as resume writing, interviewing skills, networking and negotiating employment offers.
- Critique resumes, cover letters and conduct mock interviews for students.
- Assist with the development of student orientations and workshops.
- Support students in researching academic and career interests using various resources.
- Develop marketing and promotional materials such as newsletters, flyers and brochures.
- Conduct database, literature, and web searches to locate information and articles relevant to career counselling and planning for students and alumni.
- Plan and coordinate a variety of events and activities such as conferences, seminars, and workshops.
- Collect, analyze, assess, and summarize information relevant to the decision making process and develop recommendations for final approval and implementation.
- Co-ordinate recruitment and selection of students.
- Write a variety of documents including correspondence, manuals, and reports.
- Update and maintain database information.

**Supervision**:

- Ensure adherence to quality standards and procedures for short-term staff and volunteers.

**Requirements**:

- Three year Community College in Business Administration or a related field.
- Requires 2 years of relevant experience.

**Assets**:
The following are considered assets and may be given preference:

- Educational background in Science
- Some experience in providing career education or preparation s
- Career Development Practitioner (CDP) or equivalent certification
- Knowledge of the ORBIS / OSCARPlus database system and Microsoft Office.

**Additional Information**:
Responsible for supporting Science students with career education resources, tip sheets, basic resume and cover letter advice and guidance. Provide informed and responsive job search support to a diverse group of students. Enhance and promote career development services, co-operative education opportunities and employer related events and activities. Provide co-ordination for daily operations, activities, events and job-seeking services.

Some evening and weekend work is required.
