**Job Summary**:
Reporting to the Manager, Research Operations, the Accounting Assistant will support the Office of the Vice-President Research (OVPR), providing financial support to senior leadership as well as broad office needs. This position works in a multi-faceted area that impacts a major portion of the University and assists with the implementation and conduct of university-wide responsibilities. The Accounting Assistant will organize and perform a full range of financial duties. This includes reimbursement for senior leaders in the OVPR and other financial responsibilities including travel expenses, P-card reconciliation, journal entries, purchase requisitions and payroll authorization. The Accounting Assistant will oversee selected accounts within the OVPR and provide support to the larger OVPR and envelope budget. This position works closely and collaboratively with other Senior Officers of the University and with other departments, Faculties and universities as well as external partners and stakeholders. The Accounting Assistant will possess a thorough understanding of University accounting policies, established functions and procedures. The Accounting Assistant will maintain and project a professional commitment and responsibility to excellence, integrity and respect.

**Accountabilities**:

- Provides overall day to day operational support for the financial portfolios of OVPR senior leaders to support both long term objectives and day to day needs.
- Completes required paperwork for preparing and processing payment of invoices, statements of accounts, receipts, purchase requisitions, journal entries, payroll authorization, reimbursements, reports and other financial documents and ensure adequate documentation and support for transactions and reports.
- Manages all expense reimbursement requests for the Vice-President, Associate Vice-Presidents and others while ensuring the most economical use of funding.
- For identified accounts within the OVPR, monitors and reconciles statements, participates in account reconciliation, analyzes and projects the budget.
- Assists with annual financial review across the VPR envelope by reconciling accounts.
- Reviews and makes recommendations for proper handling of complex financial transactions.
- Acts as a contact person and collects, formats and disseminates financial information to others. Ensures information is clear, correct and in a form suitable to its intended audience. Assists with internal and external audits by providing backup documentation related to audit items.
- Conducts research, collects financial data from both internal and external sources, compiles, processes and synthesizes data and interprets results in order to handle issues and prepare reports, meeting notes and requests in order to meet the needs of the portfolio, the University and/or other stakeholders.
