**Duties**:

- Set-up and operate LC/MS technology devoted to metabolomics as part of a new platform that will support internal and external research projects
- Manage technical staff (as required with platform growth)
- Development of metabolomics methods based on LC/MS
- Implementation and validation of mass spectrometry-based platform metabolomics kits and assay
- Develop and implement SOPs for laboratory and technology activities
- Coordination of projects in metabolomics with external and internal parties, including collaborators, the bioinformatics, finance and project management groups
- Assist in writing manuscripts for publication
- Keep current regarding the latest knowledge of international research trends and outcomes in relevant areas
- Working with a high degree of independence following a plan approved
- Prepares specimens and samples for extraction and purification of metabolites including lipid samples according to established SOPs
- Performs extractions of biological/biohazardous materials (Biosafety Level II/II+) according to established SOPs
- Operates LC-MS instruments according to established SOPs
- Prepares solutions of pure and mixed standards for calibration LC-MS according to established SOPs
- Performs routine minor maintenance on LC-MS instruments according to established SOPs
- Responsible for ensuring maintenance of the LC/MS technology, including working with external support experts (e.g., from the manufacturer) when required
- Uses other laboratory equipment following SOPs
- Collects data from LC-MS sample analysis
- Uses various software tools to analyze and interpret data from LC-MS sample analysis
- Work with software developers to integrate LC/MS technology into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Data entry into the LIMS
- Provides technical advice and instructions to collaborators (e.g., on sample handling and preparation).
- Work with finance, project representatives and laboratory managers to ensure projects stay within budget
- Generate reports on project / sample status,
- Generate reports on instrument utilization
- Preparing statistics for reporting to funding agencies
- Utilize LIMS, data retrieval and the user management software
- Guide and/or participate in interactions with external users and laboratory managers
- Coordinate with other teams and project managers to plan incoming projects and timelines for sample
- Help to develop project scope and cost estimates
- Independently liaise with internal/external stakeholders, including academics and vendors
- Help to request quotes for platform projects for internal or external users
- Place orders and plan consumable needs / purchases
- Keep inventory
- Help to manage large-scale collaborative metabolomics projects and track follow-up action items and progress
- Coordinate data analyses with the bioinformatics teams as required
- Assist collaborators in project development including choice of technology, project organization (timelines, defining milestones), data analysis, costing, etc
- Assist with grant writing, report writing, scientific publications, and other documents as required

Qualifications:

- PhD in analytical chemistry and/or metabolomics
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of LC/MS,
- Working experience (1+ years) in mass spectrometry techniques, method development, instrumentation and maintenance
- Working experience (1+ years) operating an LC/MC lab in an industry or academic setting
- Ability to write Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) and other related documentation
- Demonstrated attention to details and problem-solving skills
- Self-starter and sensitive to project timelines
- Ability to work as part of a team
