**Detection Officers**
- The role of the Behavioral Detection officer (BDO) is to identify “abnormal” behavior displayed by individuals with criminal intent, these individuals may exhibit behavioral indicators that stem from a fear of discovery.
- This is a program launched in the United States by the Transportation Security Administration to identify suspicious passengers among outbound US-destined passengers at YEG by a set of established objective criteria, all of which are signs of either stress, fear, or deception. Passengers meeting enough of the criteria are, under the program, referred for additional screening.

**Scheduled Shift Times**:

- 4 on 3 off / 3 on 4 off
- 2 teams consisting of 3 BDO I's and One BDO II
- 4 hours per day - averaging out to 14 hrs. biweekly.
- Shift time approx. 21:45 - 01:45

**Summary of the Role**

**Must have (or in some cases be able to secure) the following licenses and training certifications**:

- Be eligible to work in Canada.
- Hold a valid RAIC
- Must be able to handle high-risk situations.
- Must be able to verbally de-escalate conflicting situations.
- Must be able to fluently communicate in English and pass an English comprehension examination.
- Must feel comfortable with roles that involve standing for a long period of time.
- Must be able to identify individuals with hostile behaviors.
- Must be able to identify individuals with criminal intent.
- Must have strong customer service skills and can work alongside the airline and passenger experience operations without conflict as well as public and other tenants.
- Must have a strong sense of observation and can hold a high standard of professional conduct and appearance.
- Must be responsible to work as self-accountable for time and patrol management.
- Must be dependable to take notes and write reports, as well as continually available for communications and responses.
- Must have a responsible diligent sense of communication with on-duty Supervisors and management.
- Must be able to pass all training required associated with the BDO Qualification

**BDO Qualification Training**
- Online training module (16 hrs) minimum
- Students complete the e-learning course, including all mandatory modules and quizzes.
- A final exam is required to complete the course.
- Upon passing, students proceed to on-the-job training (OJT) at the operations for practical experience and certification.
- In-class training (24 hrs minimum) potentially outside of the city where travel is required (Within the Prairie Region)
- This training is only offered once annually per guard. There will be no re-examination allowed for a period of 1 year upon failure.
- Re-qualification annually is mandatory to maintain BDO status in good standing.
- Training spots are limited to twelve (12) positions.
- The BDO Qualification training is currently not being offered to full-time employees unless they want to transition from full-time to BDO part-time
