This role interacts with guests throughout their visit from when they arrive at admissions, during their exploration of the conservatory through to shopping in the gift store and dining in the cafe. The Frontline - Nature Interpreter will work closely with the Naturalist & Conservatory Manager and Gift Store & Guest Services Manager and will assist with a diverse assortment of frontline and guest services duties that reflect the immediate needs of the organization. Typical daily responsibilities of the Frontline - Nature Interpreter include assisting and engaging guests, processing transactions and maintaining the facility and grounds. The incumbent will support operations in departments such as Admissions, Gift Store, Café, and Conservatory as required.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Education and Interpretation
- Greet and welcome visitors and support them in their visit of the Conservatory
- Actively engage with visitors in the Conservatory at all times
- Assist visitors in their discovery of the Conservatory and exhibits by engaging them in conversation about interesting/unique facts
- Assist visitors in identifying butterflies, plants and birds in the Conservatory

Conservatory Maintenance
- Ensure pathways in conservatory are tidy and free from slip & trip hazards including plant material
- Keep windows, surfaces, exhibits and signage clean in work and display areas
- Help to unpack and process pupae shipments
- Assist with care and feeding of birds, butterflies, fish, turtles, plants and other insects/arachnids as instructed by Education Coordinator, Conservatory Manager, Conservatory Supervisor

Frontline Resource Staff
- Operate till and process financial transactions in Gift Store, Admissions Counter, and Café
- Assist with food service in Café as needed

Additional Duties
- Daily odd jobs around the Conservatory
- Other duties to support daily operations and customer service as assigned
- Assist other departments as needed
- Adhere to all Company policies, rules, systems and procedures which are outlined in the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory Employee Handbook, as well as all Health and Safety policies and procedures and safe work practices

**QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS**
- High level of organization and attention to detail, responsible and enthusiastic attitude
- Background knowledge in nature study, interpretation and education are an asset
- Strong customer service skills and excellent communication skills
- Comfortable interacting with visitors of different ages and abilities, in large and small groups
- Ability to initiate engagement with visitors, and interact in a positive and enthusiastic manner
- Interest in insects, invertebrates and plants an asset
- Willing to handle live creatures including but not limited to millipedes, cockroaches, stick insects, and caterpillars
- Current Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Check

**Job Type**: Casual

**Salary**: $17.50 per hour
