North-South Environmental Inc. (NSE) is a small (12 staff) ecological and natural heritage consultancy. Established in 1999, NSE provides high quality services to public and private sector clients, and to a lesser extent with NGOs, on a wide array of environmental projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Analyze GIS datasets and produce high quality mapping for reports and presentations.
- Undertake background data collection and review, and data entry into MS Access database.
- Contribute to high quality reports, formatting of reports, and other project deliverables on time and within budget.
- This position is a mix of office and field work. Proportion of office vs field will vary based on project needs and workload.
- Attend project meetings and support other staff as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS, ATTRIBUTES & EXPERIENCE

Degree or diploma in Environmental Studies, Ecology, Geography, Geomatics, or a related field. Education in and/or work experience with GIS is required.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in:

- Interpreting and analyzing GIS-based datasets and producing high quality mapping;
- Working with ESRI products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Field Maps, etc.);
- Cartography;
- Spatial analysis; and
- Interpreting geospatial data. Specific experience in using and interpreting ecological datasets is an asset.
- Interest in, and basic knowledge of ecological principles and ecological surveys. Experience conducting surveys or using standard ecological protocols is considered an asset.
- Good design sensibility (cartographic);
- Highly organized;
- Detail oriented;
- Strong problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills;
- Resilient and flexible within a work environment with changing priorities, workload and deadlines;
- Good verbal and written communication;
- Willingness and interest in supporting ecological field surveys, if / as required;
- Reliable access to a vehicle in good working order (for field work); and
- Ability to travel (within Ontario), including some evenings

If you’re starting your career this is a great opportunity for someone with a good educational foundation looking to get practical industry experience. There is possibility of extension for this position based on workload and staffing requirements.
