The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) is seeking a **fluently bi-lingual (French/English)** communications professional to fill a **14-month term position as Communications Manager**.

The Communications Manager is expected to be able to accept and assume responsibility, interpret, and make decisions in accordance with the best practices and established procedures/policies of the organization. Along with these responsibilities, the Manager will supervise the CIFFC Communications Officer.

Due to the coordination responsibilities of CIFFC, the Communications Manager must be available to work weekends and extended hours (if required), to assist with the management of the Fire Coordination Centre. CIFFC’s has significant domestic and international partnerships which will require travel.

**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Utilizes strong writing and editing skills and knowledge of multiple communication tools to create and administer a comprehensive communications plan for CIFFC.
- Leads and develops strategic communication plan aligned with the goals and priorities of the organization; responsible for the overall management, control, coordination, and execution of assigned PR and Communications projects.
- Manages proactive and reactive communication responses, often in crisis situations, acting as the public voice of CIFFC as required.
- Provides communication and PR advice/direction to internal team members as needed to maintain consistent messaging.
- Builds strong relationships with agencies and stakeholders.
- Manages social media and web presence, including public and member websites for CIFFC, ICS Canada, and FireSmart Canada.
- Oversees the writing and design of CIFFC publications, public documents, and campaigns.
- Represents CIFFC serving as the primary point of contact for PR and Communications issues.
- Implements corporate decisions, standards, and policies in the development of Communications projects.
- Responsible for all projects assigned, refers to immediate supervisor for information and appropriate involvement for matters requiring high level intervention, policy formulation, or of significant interest or controversy.
- Provides status reports on assigned projects to CIFFC leadership.
- Manages communications project funds and measures/monitors performance to ensure commitments of all parties are being fulfilled.
- Manages the organization’s translation function to ensure both of Canada’s official languages are appropriately represented.
- Reviews and analyzes cost reports to ensure charges are authorized and appropriate; identifies unauthorized charges and ensures corrective actions are taken.
- Reviews Communications project process, measures performance, and takes necessary action to maintain agreed upon schedule and cost.
- Under the direction of the Fire Centre Manager, participates in the annual CIFFC Duty Officer rotation, fulfills the role of Duty Officer and Duty Officer Support, and performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations as required.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Knowledge & Skills**
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a communications, marketing, or public relations field.
- Able to take initiative and work well under limited supervision in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Strong project management skills, including prioritization, multi-tasking, and time management.
- Excellent presentation, written, and oral communication skills.
- Able to establish and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), social media, and web management.
- Able to maintain confidentiality when dealing with private/sensitive information.
- Ability to effectively communicate (oral and written) in Canada’s two official languages (English and French) is essential.
