As a **Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) Specialist** at Three Farmers Foods, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, quality, and consistency of our roasted pulse snacks. In addition to overseeing the day-to-day needs of our food safety and quality program, you will have the opportunity to assist in product development and new item processes. This multifaceted role will require a combination of technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to upholding our Safe Quality Food (SQF) Certification.

**Primary Responsibilities**:

- Ensure implementation of company's food safety and quality management systems
- Reviewing, developing and revising all programs under the Safe Quality Food Certifications as required including, but not limited to; Allergen Program, Environmental monitoring
- Conduct regular inspections of production facilities, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to food safety standards
- Maintain records and documentation related to quality control and compliance
- Support the planning and execution of site Environmental Program (EMP)
- Conduct all appropriate follow-ups and investigations regarding quality non-conformities, complaints received, non-conformances reports, products on hold that impact operations, and food safety and security
- Perform supplier verifications, risk analysis, and continued monitoring of supply chain performance
- Conduct regular product testing and analysis, including microbiological, chemical, and sensory assessments
- Assist in the development and delivery of training programs for employees on quality and food safety procedures, such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Allergen Control and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)
- Assist in conducting and evaluating internal and external food safety and quality audits
- Communicate daily with production team members to meet food safety and quality compliance
- Contribute to food safety and quality related continuous improvement projects, as required
- Participate in meetings and projects as a Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) representative, as required
- Conduct on-going shelf-life testing and sensory analysis, as required.
- Support sanitation programs and team members, as required
- Support new item development and processes, as required
- Conduct bench trials and scaled trials of new items, recipes or quality improvement projects
- Assist in implementation and maintenance of various food product certifications including Kosher Certification, Non-GMO Project Verification, Gluten-Free Certification and DETOX, and HACCP-based programs including GFSI - SQF Code A Certification and Safe Food for Canadians Certification.
- Assist in guiding supply chain, logistics, and warehouse teams to ensure all relevant customs and food safety policies and procedures are being followed during the procurement of ingredients, movement of ingredients and finished goods, and the fulfillment of orders.
- Prepare and package product samples for internal and external testing and evaluation
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely sample creation and distribution
- Assist with preparation and delivery of reports, presentations, and other quality communications.
- Actively supports risk management activities as it relates to quality, customer, brand, and food safety.
- Support the team with any other projects or duties required to be completed as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Nutrition, or a related field is preferred
- 2+ years of experience in a food safety and quality role within a food processing facility, preferably SQF, Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) and HACCP certified
- Knowledge of SQF standards and food safety regulations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Detail-oriented with excellent record-keeping abilities
- Familiar with with research & development (R&D) processes and product development
- Willingness to learn, teach others and lead by example
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
