**Job Description**:
The incumbent reports to the Manager of the Mamidosewin Centre for Indigenous Learners. This role has three primary duties; 1) assisting with activities related to student recruiting for prospective Indigenous learners deemed at risk; this position places particular emphasis on programming and intervention for level one students 2) work within an integrated team approach of faculty, academic advisors and Indigenous counsellors on course load reduction to incoming Indigenous learners and 3) serving as a one-stop point of contact for connecting Indigenous Learners with available supports and resources during Level 1 of their program. All duties will be performed in a manner that is reflective and respective of a broad range of Canada’s First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples.

The incumbent works collaboratively with both the members of the Mamidosewin Centre team and other support areas of the college, particularly Student Recruiting and the Student Orientation team. The incumbent will also have a strong knowledge of all support services available to Indigenous students and the ability to perform effective referrals to those services. This primarily includes those support services internal to Algonquin College (e.g., the Student Learning Centre, the Centre for Accessible Learning, and the Registrar Office). However, it also included those external organizations that have a mandate to provide support to post secondary students who identify as First Nations, Metis or Inuit (e.g., the Cree School Board, the Metis Nation of Ontario and Tungasuvvingat Inuit).

Duties and Responsibilities:- The incumbent will refer the Indigenous students to student support areas as appropriate and help them gain access to those supports. This includes helping students explore and understand the support services available through external agencies and organizations with a mandate to support Indigenous youth or students;- Incumbent will work in collaboration with Algonquin’s Orientation and Mamidosewin Teams to guide incoming indigenous students through the orientation process. This includes proactively contacting new students who have self-identified as Indigenous in advance of the start of each term, providing guidance and information to those students in line with the college’s orientation processes and making themselves available to answer questions, solve problems and refer students to the appropriate support services;-
- Respond to requests from external Indigenous organizations seeking to connect Indigenous prospective students with information resources.

Required Qualifications:
- Three (3) year diploma/degree in social work, education, administration or other related field; preferably a graduate of Algonquin College;- Experience delivering services in a manner that are generally reflective and respectful to First Nations, Metis and Inuit cultures;- Lived experience with First Nations, Metis and Inuit cultures;- Experience working with Indigenous learners who may face barriers to completing their education;- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, in particular Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint;- Effective organization and time management skills; ability to multi-task and prioritize;- Experience working independently within a team-based front line customer service environment;- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.

Anticipated Weekly Schedule: Monday - Friday. Hours to be determined upon hire. Evening events are a possibility.
