About the Program

INTERNATIONAL & INDIGENOUS LANGUAGES PROGRAM (Elementary)

The International & Indigenous Languages Program is mandated by the Ontario Ministry of Education and provides high quality instruction in non-official languages. The International & Indigenous Languages program is offered on Saturdays from September 9, 2023 to June 8, 2024 (33 Saturdays in total) and is attended by students from JK to grade 8.

The Board is seeking applicants interested in the position of Site Principal for the International Languages Program as follows:

Eligibility & Qualifications

Applicants must hold a valid Ontario Teaching Certificate and are employed as teachers or in leadership positions within the Board.

**Preference will be given to applicants who**:
have the Principal Qualifications Part I and II courses;
**Other related experience that will be considered an asset**:
related administrative experience in a school setting;
experience in the International & Indigenous Languages Program

competency in an international language

international teaching experience

lived experience of a visible minority group

Administrative Responsibilities

The IILP Site Principal is responsible for all aspects of the program: fostering a safe, equitable, diverse, and caring learning environment for students and staff, directing, supporting and monitoring the implementation of the curriculum at the site, modeling exemplary teaching strategies to IIL instructors, collaborating and contributing to PD training days and educational meetings, performing administrative duties (personnel procedures, class registration statistics, report cards, submitting supply orders), handling emergencies, supervising and delegating office staff duties, ensuring smooth and safe registration procedures are in place, maintaining close working relationships with day school staff as well as community groups, communicating and working with Continuing Education administration to ensure the delivery of an accountable quality program.

The duties of the Site Principal include responsibilities before, during, and after the posted dates for the program (including attendance to Site Principals’ meeting/s, preparations for the registration day, contacting staff to ensure smooth start of the program, supporting the implementation of the IILE curriculum, guiding instructors on the development of engaging language activities that support student’s learning).
