**The Opportunity**:
The Mental Health and Addictions (MHA) Program Educator is a member of the interdisciplinary health care team, who collaborates with other team and program wide staff to provide a range of training experiences including Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) to IWK Mental Health & Addictions staff. This position assists with the delivery of program wide education initiatives including mandatory trainings, policy rollouts, skill-building, and staff and client safety initiatives. The Program Educator is a facilitator for program wide orientation and workshops as required. The Program Educator is accountable to the Manager, Quality, Innovation, Research and Training and works collaboratively with the Education Coordinator and Education Administrative Assistant of the MHA Program, as well as the Clinical Leaders of Development.
Specific responsibilities include:
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI):
- Maintains NCI instructor certification.
- Delivers NCI training according to IWK policies.
- Integrates Trauma Informed Care principles into all trainings.
- Assists staff with safety strategies and mock drills.
Educational Initiatives:
- Facilitates/delivers program
- wide education, including orientation and workshops.
- Implements training on Respectful Workplace, Code White procedures, and policy rollouts.
Special Projects:
- Undertakes projects to enhance psychological, emotional, and physical safety for clients and staff.
**Hours of Work**:
Monday-Friday, 0830-1630; 75 hours bi-weekly, flexible hours may be required.
**Your Qualifications**:
- Bachelor’s degree in a health profession is required.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) NCI Trainer certification is required; Master-level NCI Instructor certification is ideal.
- Minimum of two years of experience as an NCI instructor.
- Three to five years of clinical experience in a mental health and addictions setting.
- Competency in Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office Suite, and Zoom.
- Experience with principles of adult learning and facilitation.
- Demonstrated ability to engage learners effectively.
- Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Promotes cultural humility and facilitates knowledge transfer within the MHA Program.
- Understanding of the populations served, including cultural awareness, equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion.
- Familiarity with principles of Trauma-Informed Care and awareness of trauma prevalence.
- Understanding of the stages of change.
- Respectful Workplace instructor training is an asset.
