The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Mental Health and Addictions (MHA), the Advanced Practice Leader (APL), Education and Training is responsible for providing leadership direction and support for education and training across the MHA program. The APL will provide oversight and consultation to MHA staff and teams around professional development within the Mental Health and Addictions program. The APL works with Managers to identify educational needs and/or gaps in services, and to provide consultation/direction around service training needs and/or opportunities to enhance services. The APL, Education and Training is dedicated to standardizing educational processes, developing learning programs and supporting educational initiatives in line with the MHA program's strategic direction. This position will work closely with other MHA Advanced Practice Leaders, Clinical Team Leaders and Program Educators to meet the professional development educational goals of the Mental Health and Addictions program. The APL will have specific skills within an adult learning model and in educational informed learning approaches to enhance quality services and to optimize high-performance teams. The APL provides leadership, clinical support and consultation to staff within the Mental Health and Addictions Program. Responsibilities also include consultation as needed with other organizations across the province to support staff education and training including, but not exclusively, Nova Scotia Health. The APL is actively involved in committee work throughout the MHA program and has leadership responsibilities for the education and training of the program and for program wide orientation. The APL provides support for and is involved in, program evaluation and research projects related to staff education and professional development. The APL will carry a .2 clinical practice role in the MHA program and provide treatment to clients and families as part of the clinical APL role.
Hours of Work
8:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday (some flexibility may be required)
Your Qualifications
- Masters degree in health or education related field required.
- Active license in Nova Scotia to practice in health related discipline or education required.
- Minimum 5 years experience with MHA treatment interventions and professional development.
- Knowledge and application of adult learning theory.
- Minimum 5 years experience with program design, development and evaluation.
- Training and experience in the delivery of evidence-based psychological interventions.
- Knowledge of the Choice and Partnership approach (CAPA), required.
- Experience with competency in change initiatives, building commitment to change and leading high performance Teams required.
- Evaluates the success and learning outcomes from delivered educational initiatives.
- Fosters a collaborative climate and builds the confidence of team members.
- Demonstrated ability in teaching and facilitation at the individual, small group and large group level.
- Awareness of emerging technologies and experience with e-learning application and LEAN approaches.
- Demonstrated organizational, time management and problem solving skills.
- Excellent critical thinking, communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with program design, development, program leveling and evaluation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in group facilitation.
- Competencies in other languages an asset.
