CMH is a busy medium-sized ED with 40 beds that sees around 100-150 patients per day (50,000 per year). The hospital is in the middle of a large capital re-development and the ED is brand new, having opened only in 2020. There is excellent colleague and specialist support. There is only one single-coverage shift per day, and new EPs start only with shared-coverage. EPs work shifts that transition from acute to subacute zones. UCPs work shifts only in the subacute zones. There is a 12-bed ICU that is covered 24/7 and internal medicine admits patients throughout the day. Other admitting services include general surgery, orthopedics, OB/GYN, pediatrics, psychiatry and oncology. There is regional coverage for urology, ENT, spine, plastic surgery and nephrology. The ED has x-ray and CT 24/7, ultrasound 12hrs 7 days a week, and MRI 12 hrs per day.
