**Position Summary**
- Reporting to the Vice President People Services, the Associate Director, Total Rewards is a strategic partner working consultatively with management and the People Services team. The role supports the strategic goals of the college and is responsible for services related to compensation and classification, benefits, employment agreements, and services related to these for all employee groups. Provides support and direction to a team of HR professionals responsible for provision of these services. The position is part of the People Services leadership team tasked with promoting strategic and innovative human resources practices.
- The position also fosters a positive and respectful**working relationship with faculty, staff, administrators, and**union representatives, as well as a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
**Duties & Responsibilities**
**Strategic and Operational Planning**
- Participates as a member of the People Services team. Contributes to the overall leadership of People Services through the planning, development, and implementation of the People Services strategic plan.
- Oversees and implements strategic and operational projects related to assigned portfolio across the College. Collaborates with the HRIS team on the acquisitions and implementation of existing or new HRIS software or point solutions to meet strategic goals and objectives for assigned portfolio.
- Provides leadership, coaching and direction to a team of HR professionals including compensation and classification experts and other HR professionals based on portfolio responsibilities.
**Organizational Design, Job Design/Descriptions, Job Evaluation and Reorganizations**
- Oversees organizational design, job design and job evaluations.
- Provides advice and guidance to senior leaders in areas of restructuring and reorganization, by providing advice on matters that affect job design, compensation and organizational change.
- Leads reorganization discussions in collaboration with People Relations when unionized positions are affected.
- Oversees or represents the interests of the College in relation to CUPE job evaluation and classification issues. Responds to appeals and grievances and negotiates resolution or settlements with the union. May represent the College at arbitration.
- Maintains and ensures continued effectiveness of VCC’s job design and evaluation process and provides oversite and direction on the implementation of any processes and systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the job evaluation plan or compensation related process.
- Oversees or leads the selection and implementation of any portfolio related system or process.
**Benefits and Pension Management, Policies & Interpretation**
- Develops strategy and direction for VCC benefit offerings including developing integrated plan design changes that move the college towards its strategic goals and objectives and promotes sectoral mandates.
- Liaises with benefit consultants and carriers regarding plan contracts, plan design changes, and emerging benefit issues and trends.
- Responsible for benefit interpretations with benefit carriers and benefit consultants and other providers including the interpretation of collective agreement articles and their intersection with benefit carrier contracts and resolves difficult and complex employee benefits issues including discussion with unions.
- Oversees the adherence to existing processes, practices and standards. Engages the Manager, People Services to ensure processes are updated related to any changes and to gather any necessary data or information to investigate processes and past practices. If necessary, will engage People Relations on any changes to practices or estoppel notices for bargaining.
