The Department of Agriculture is seeking a Public Trust and Engagement Manager for the Transformation branch of the Corporate Services and Innovation Division. The Transformation Branch enables evidence-based policy and legislative development and administers the department’s Boards to sustainably advance Manitoba’s agriculture and food systems.

Conditions of Employment:

- Must be able to travel within Manitoba with occasional overnight stays.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5F Manitoba driver's license and have access to a personal vehicle for travel purposes.

Qualifications:
**Essential**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Public Relations, Creative Communications, Political Studies, Public Administration, Business/Management or Social Sciences (Masters Degree preferred). An equivalent combination of education, training and considerable experience in the fields of public engagement, government/stakeholder relations and/or public relations may be considered.
- Extensive experience in leading and/or conducting public consultation projects, indigenous engagement, public communications and/or related activities.
- Extensive experience in the management of high profile public issues and working with the public on contentious issues or projects.
- Demonstrated experience in the field of public, indigenous, government and/or stakeholder relations, including issues management, preferably in the public sector environment.
- Demonstrated experience in all aspects of event planning and execution.
- Demonstrated experience providing strategic advice to senior officials and staff.
- Proven ability to exercise discretion, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to handle difficult situations.

**Desired**:

- Knowledge of the agriculture industry, animal welfare, production practices, environmental sustainability and climate change.
- Strong understanding and experience leading or supporting initiatives that further Truth & Reconciliation and/or Economic Reconciliation.
- Knowledge and or experience working with non-profit organizations

**Duties**:
Reporting to the Director of the Transformation Branch, the Manager of Public Trust & Engagement, is responsible for providing leadership in the development and delivery of innovative initiatives that address numerous overarching issues in the agriculture and food systems such as animal welfare, production practices, food safety, sustainable agriculture and economic reconciliation.

As the provincial lead, the incumbent works directly with internal and external stakeholders to determine and address industry needs in the area of public trust. In consultation with the department’s executive management committee, the incumbent works to identify priority public trust opportunities and lead interdisciplinary teams of government, industry and indigenous rights holders to develop innovative initiatives to address public trust issues, to ensure the economic growth and competitiveness of the agriculture and foods sectors.
