We are seeking an agile, intuitive, and highly detailed Payroll Specialist, who is passionate about payroll, to join our People and Culture Team. Reporting into the Payroll Manager, The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for preparing and processing multi-provincial Canadian payroll for employees across five different businesses and multiple legal entities. The Payroll Specialist will be solely responsible for managing and processing payroll related correspondence in a complex, high volume business.

This role will work in a hybrid environment which includes work from home, with the requirement to be able to travel into our offices (Grimsby & Oakville) when needed.

**We are looking for a teammate with**:

- Post-secondary degree or diploma
- CPM designation with Canadian Payroll Association
- 5+ years progressive and diverse Canadian payroll experience in a high volume, complex, multi-provincial, multi-legal entity company (union and non-union)
- 3-5 years progressive HRIS system management experience
- Payroll implementation and project management experience preferred
- Advanced computer skills including advanced Microsoft Excel abilities (advanced formulas, v-lookups, pivot tables, etc.)
- Ability to adapt and respond to changing priorities while displaying exemplary customer service skills
- Agile and quick learner who can easily adapt and learn new systems and take responsibility for own learning
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, be proactive and independently troubleshoot and problem solve
- Superior time management organization skills with the ability to adapt to change
- Proven ability to effectively manage and execute multiple tasks and initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced high-volume environment
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to troubleshoot difficult calculations to resolve payroll defects and solutions that reduce manual inputs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions

**This teammate will be accountable for**:

- Full cycle (end-to-end) payroll; processing payroll data for new employees, transfers, terminations and salary changes using a cloud based HCM/payroll system on a bi-weekly basis (approx. 850 new hires annually) in a high-volume company, ensuring all employees are paid accurately and on time 100% of the time
- Reviewing payroll, ensuring accuracy and balancing prior to payroll transmission
- Researching and interpret payroll legislation, tax laws and ensuring government reporting compliance
- Managing the biweekly/monthly remittances of garnishments, union dues, WSIB/WCB, STD calculations and other payroll deductions and reconciliation of statutory government remittances
- Completing monthly payroll commitments such as GL inquiries, PIER reports and governance/audit requests
- Assist in the year-end process including T4/T4A preparation, taxable benefit adjustments, T2200's and year-end reconciliation
- Calculating and accurately preparing off-cycle payments when necessary
- Providing exemplary customer service, responding accurately and timely to inquiries from teammates, internal and external stakeholders, and government agencies
- Managing all payroll audit requests, common or sensitive in nature, from internal & external audits
- Advance report writing ; running and creating bi-weekly reports and analysis using Crystal Reports, Dayforce Adhoc reporting
- Creating process documentation and providing training to users as new systems are implemented
- Supporting Dayforce HCM payroll projects and system configuration
- Acting as a super user for Dayforce HCM, providing training, issue resolution and guidance to users
- Validation of HRIS system configuration changes and new release upgrades
- Identifying and proposing process improvement projects within the end-to-end payroll process
