**JOB SUMMARY**:
This position has 3 key focus areas: assisting, developing, delivering and supervising the Zoo's and Park's education programs and visitor experiences. This includes training and coaching the student staff, developing and delivering the Zoo's other education visitor experiences, including signage, social media, conservation as well as developing and delivering the Zoo's fundraising events in collaboration with the Friends of the Zoo board and volunteers.

This position reports to the Visitor and Education Programs Coordinator at the Magnetic Hill Zoo.

**WORKING AT THE CITY OF MONCTON**:
The Magnetic Hill Zoo's 40 acre park provides a friendly environment for visitors to experience an appreciation for and connection to more than 70 indigenous and exotic species. The Animal Care team strive to provide excellent care and enrichment for the lives these animals. The Zoo is divided into four distinct areas: the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Discovery.

Throughout the year, the Zoo hosts special seasonal events and fundraisers. Educational programming is also available.

**EDUCATION**:

- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Must have completed post-secondary education from an accredited institution in Education, Early Childhood Education, Educational Assistants. Courses or experience in event planning would be a definite asset.

**EXPERIENCE**:

- Must have a minimum of two (2) years' experience in performing similar or related duties.
- Must have a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Experience in customer service, volunteering programs, boards, and event planning.

**LANGUAGE**:

- This position is designated bilingual (English and French) and requires oral and written proficiency. As per provincial language proficiency standards, fluency is determined to be at the Intermediate (2+) level or higher.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:

- Knowledge of the management and use social media platforms including websites, Facebook and Instagram and willingness to develop skills for new platforms.
- The principals of conservation education and learning across all age groups.
- The methods of community engagement, volunteering, and event planning.
- Conservation, ecology, biodiversity, and climate change actions.
- General care, welfare and safety including a comfort in working with and around exotic animals in a zoo setting.
- The goals and accreditation standards of zoos, aquariums, and wildlife conservation centers.
- Possesses knowledge and skills in computer software programs relevant to the position (Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook), Social Media platforms (Facebook and Instagram) and web-based programs.
- The position requires strong communication skills (written and oral).
- Must be self-motivated with the ability to work alone or in a team environment.
- This position requires good organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail.
- Work must be performed with tact, diplomacy and persuasion for exchanging information and data, discussion of problems and submission of frequent internal/external contacts.
- Must be willing to upgrade skills as required by changes in the workplace.

- Must possess or willing to obtain and maintain a current First Aid & CPR certification.

- This position assists in supervising volunteers, students and casual staff who are involved with projects or activities.

**CONDITIONS OF WORK**:

- Hours of work will be as per the City of Moncton CHEA/PSAC Local 60200 Collective Agreement.
- Position is generally Monday to Friday, however, involves variable hours, including several weekends and evening work (December) as required (mostly during Fundraising Events and conservation education programming).
- Requires accuracy and attention to detail.
- Occasional manual and physical work during Fundraising Events.
