In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement this position has an approximate appointment of two years and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits and annual salary range of $59,822-$67,303.

This role is in-person with onsite work at North Campus and South Campus Edmonton.

**Working for the Department**

The objectives of the Cropping System Research Group at the University of Alberta are to (1) Optimize cropping systems from small plots to whole farm/landscape: Agronomic assessments (seeding rates, depth, establishment, yield gap) and the interaction of amendments (humalite/ humic products, lime, biochar, EENFs, PGRs) and nitrogen sources under normal and abiotic stresses (drought and heat); (2) Diversify cropping systems (crop rotations, cover crops, intercropping, low input systems): Linking crop productivity, water and fertilizer use efficiency, soil management and economic benefits in these systems; and (3) Root Research: Addressing agronomic questions from a below-ground perspective

**Position**

Working under the supervision of the PI, the Research Associate will actively write, conduct and mentor HQPs in several research projects in the Cropping Systems Research Group (CSRG) led by Dr. Linda Gorim (PI). This is a field-based program with trials across Western Canada accompanied by greenhouse/lab experiments. The Research Associate also be involved in building industry and government collaboration.

**Duties**

The Research Associate will be responsible, but not limited to the following activities:

- Applies extensive knowledge in their field to perform high-level, complex research activities under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
- Designs individual experiments, data collection protocols, and standards under the supervision of the Principal Investigator in collaboration with the Lead Technician and Research partners.
- Determines the most appropriate methodology to meet identified research goals.
- Collaborate with the Lead technicians to ensure that field sites and data collection at all collaborators’ field sites are appropriately conducted and data collected.
- Conducts advanced analysis of research data and results.
- Summarizes, analyzes, and organizes data for publication.
- Participates in the writing of research papers, the preparation of presentations, and/or other publications; will be considered as a co-author or presenter.
- Responsible for the maintenance and efficient operation of the Cropping System Research Lab (e.g, specialized lab equipment maintenance and calibration).
- Will supervise undergrad and Master students together with the PI
- Will provide mentorship and guidance for lab technical staff, PhD, and post-doctoral fellows.
- May advise on specialized technical procedures or equipment.
- Will be a co-applicant for research funding, this will be stipulated in the appointment letter.

Will be included as a collaborator or co-author in manuscripts depending on circumstance

**Minimum Qualifications**
- A minimum of a doctoral degree or equivalent qualifications and experience
- Applicant must possess superior writing abilities evidenced by a description of their contribution to published works and reports with specific examples.
- Applicant must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, especially during field season
- Applicant must be able to work independently and in team settings, and they should be able to articulate their supervisory guidelines or approach.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- A Class 5 driver's license is required
- Ability to work with people from a diverse background will be an asset and evidence of how EDI has been incorporated into their work is required
