**Working for the Department**
Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Alberta. Our mission is to optimize and advance the provision of emergency medical care through excellence in education, research, and community service. We offer training for Emergency Medicine trainees through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada accredited program (5 years) and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (1 extra year of training after completion of a Family Medicine residency). We also offer clinical experience to medical students and residents from other training programs during their mandatory emergency medicine rotations.
Our research groups are heavily involved in evidence-based medicine and have produced high-quality evidence-based research for over 13 years. Knowledge synthesis and translation activities have provided a platform from which to exchange valuable information that has been used to improve the quality of care delivered to patients in the ED in Alberta, nationally, and internationally.
**Position**
Reporting to the Academic Department Manager (ADM), and supervised by the Principal Investigator and the Research Associate, the Research Project Coordinator (RPC) coordinates and administers research study associated activities.
The RPC assists in project planning and ensures that pre-established work scope, study protocol, and regulatory requirements are followed. The RPC recruits and coordinates research participants, collects data, and serves as the principal administrative liaison for the project. The RPC provides administrative services to the investigators; develops and maintains record keeping systems and procedures.
**Duties**
**Research Project Implementation (60%)**
- Plan and coordinate the initiation of research study protocol, and the establishment of operating policies and procedures, ensuring that all are compliant with University guidelines and policies, TCPS2, and research agreements with project partners.
- Complies with ethical standards as required by research partners.
- Plans, implements, and maintains data collection and analysis systems in support of research protocol; coordinates the collection and analysis of research data.
- Recruits and obtains consent from research participants.
- Conducts observational, interview, and survey data collection.
- Collaborates on the selection and validation of quantitative measures.
- Ensures the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities; acts as the primary administrative point of contact.
- Communicates with teams and team members to keep them informed and on schedule.
- Communicates with partners and stakeholders about project progress.
- Works closely and cooperatively with project staff.
- Consults with principal investigators, co-principal investigators, project partners, community partners, and staff.
- Coordinates with any technical support staff specifically engaged in the carrying out of research protocol.
- Monitors the progress of research activities; develops and maintains records of research activities.
- Gather literature and other research materials.
- Contribute to writing research manuscripts for publication.
- Contribute to writing and submitting conference abstracts.
- Prepares periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies.
