In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement this position has an approximate appointment of one year with possiblity of extension and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits and annual salary range of $59,822-$82,266.

**Location** - Work primarily takes place at North Campus Edmonton.

**Working for the Department of Biochemistry**

The Department of Biochemistry in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry hosts a large undergraduate and graduate education program. We are a research-intensive department with most Faculty members leading cutting-edge independent research programs across a broad range of topics.

**Position**

We are looking for a highly motivated and qualified Research Associate to join our team and lead a project focused on the discovery of a novel biomarker for multiple sclerosis (MS). MS is a chronic inflammatory-neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system that affects millions of people worldwide. This position is to lead and direct a project that includes a team of physicians, scientists and mathematicians for a two year project focused on biomarker discovery.

**Duties**
- Conduct quality analysis and quality assurance on methodology/experimental approach/technique.
- Analyzing and interpreting data using statistical and bioinformatics tools and presenting the results in a clear and concise manner.
- Assists in writing and publishing scientific papers and reports in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
- Responsible for the maintenance and efficient operation of the lab (specialized lab equipment maintenance and calibration).
- Collaborating and communicating effectively with other researchers, clinicians, and stakeholders involved in the project.
- Designing and conducting experiments using various techniques such as molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry and mass spectrometry to identify and validate potential biomarker for MS.
- Supervising and mentoring junior staff and students.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Experience in developing assays for clinical labs.
- Experience in Antibody production and purification.
- Demonstrate competence in written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry (or similar)
