Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) is a dedicated not-for-profit organization that acts on behalf of the province to oversee all aspects of end-of-life processing of electronics, paint, tires and used oil materials. Since its inception in 1992, ARMA has led the diversion of 11.6 million electronic devices, 33.9 million litres of paint, 144.5 million tires, and over 2.0 billion litres of used oil from the province’s landfills.

Most recently, thanks to the organization’s innovation and environmental stewardship, ARMA was appointed as the administration and oversight body for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). **Position Summary**:
**CORE RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Policy Leadership, Analysis and Advice**

1. Lead development, maintenance, and enforcement of bylaws, policies, and practices in alignment with the EPR Regulation and EPR Oversight Agreement.

2. Support management and implementation of best practices in program development, implementation, and evaluation of the EPR oversight program.

3. Develop, evaluate, and implement oversight policies and procedures by analyzing and interpreting data and incorporating feedback.

4. Maintain a thorough understanding of industry trends regarding oversight policy developments to make informed decisions regarding oversight operations.

**Strategic Direction and Oversight**

1. Offer strategic direction and leadership for EPR policy reviews, updates, and development projects.

2. Analyze and strategize policy adjustments to ensure alignment with corporate goals, risks, performance metrics, and audits.

3. Perform regular reviews of EPR policies to ensure they are in harmony with division/corporate strategic initiatives and manage proactive policy amendments.

**Relationships and Interested Party Engagement**

1. Develop and maintain both internal and external relationships with interested parties.

2. Lead consultations and drive EPR policy development, implementation, and changes with informed consultation and feedback.

3. Collaborate with Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (EPA), Producers, Producer Responsibility Organizations, and other key parties to ensure the fulfillment of ARMA’s mandate.

**Leadership**

1. Lead, coach, and mentor while nurturing strong relationships with all employees.

2. Develop and foster a culture focused on high-performance.

3. Support the EPR team, and ARMA broadly, through the development of effective working relationships.

4. Lead innovative practices, processes, and systems improvements using continuous improvement principles.

5. Be a positive role model and change agent, and lead by example to engage, empower and influence the EPR Team.

6. Participate in cross training opportunities within the EPR Team to provide support and backup during any staff absences and continue to grow and develop.

7. Lead multi-disciplinary committees and teams consisting of consultants, internal and external interested parties.

**Regulatory Compliance & Oversight**

1. Design, uphold, and enforce robust policies and procedures to identify and register obligated organizations under ARMA's governing regulations and the EPR Oversight Agreement.

2. Support EPR compliance with governing regulations and the EPR Oversight Agreement by registered entities through the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of mandatory reporting, payment procedures, and other regulatory mandates.

**Finance, Contracting, and Records Retention**

1. Provide input into annual EPR budget process for policy and procedure activities and adhere to the budget throughout the year.

2. Ensure proper procurement and contracting processes and practices are followed.

3. Maintain adequate documentation following all records retention and document management practices.
