The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) has an exciting opportunity for you as a Registrar Coordinator. In this role, you will play a vital part in preserving and documenting the museum's collections. You will be responsible for creating, assessing, and maintaining essential primary and original contractual documentation. By working with Registration databases, you will ensure accurate records of exhibitions, artifact loans, and acquisitions. Additionally, you will perform detailed condition reporting, uphold compliance with museum policies and regulations, and collaborate with various teams to facilitate the handling and display of objects. **RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Coordinate the registration process for museum collections, including documentation creation, assessment, and maintenance of primary and original contractual paperwork.
- Develop and manage Registration databases to ensure accurate and up-to-date records of exhibitions, artifact loans, and acquisitions.
- Conduct thorough condition reporting of objects, identifying and documenting any damages or deterioration, and recommending appropriate conservation measures.
- Ensure compliance with Museum policies, government legislation, and international museum standards and ethics in all registration activities.
- Collaborate with internal teams, such as curators, conservators, and exhibition designers, to facilitate the smooth handling, transportation, and display of objects.
- Coordinate the loan process for artifacts, including the necessary paperwork, insurance coverage, and logistics arrangements.
- Participate in the acquisition process by conducting due diligence, researching provenance, and documenting all necessary information for new additions to the collection.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to registration and collections management.
- Provide guidance and training to staff and volunteers regarding best practices in object care, handling, and registration protocols.
- Stay updated on current trends, technologies, and best practices in museum registration and collections management.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of digital image databases and digital asset management systems.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders, including donors, collectors, and other institutions, to facilitate loan agreements and acquisitions.
- Actively participate in professional networks and attend conferences and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills in the field of registration and collections management.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- A minimum of a three-year certification in museum studies from a community college or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least five years of collection management experience in a museum or related cultural environment. Demonstrated expertise in object care and handling is essential.
- Experience in condition reporting objects and a keen eye for recognizing the materials used in the fabrication of artifacts. Knowledge of the agents and manifestations of physical, chemical, and biological deterioration. Manual dexterity and strong visual acuity are necessary skills.
- Familiarity with standard accession numbering systems.
- Strong judgment, confidentiality, initiative, accuracy, and negotiation skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups.
- Familiarity with applicable provincial and federal legislation, as well as national and international treaties, conventions, legal requirements, ethical principles, and practices of museum collections management and administration.
- Proficiency at an intermediate level with relational database management programs, including Microsoft Office Suite and TMS (The Museum System). Demonstrated knowledge of museum data standards. Experience with computer programming, Crystal Reports, and Piction Digital Asset Management System would be advantageous. Working with digital images is a requirement.
- Fluency in French or proficiency in a foreign language would be a valuable asset.
