**Responsibilities**:
**Purpose of the Role**:
The Accessibility Coordinator, Work Integrated Learning will support the hiring of students with disabilities in work integrated learning (WIL) (e.g. internship, co-op, practicum) and new graduate opportunities. Their work will focus on advising employers on the recruitment and hiring of students with disabilities and helping campus partners to remove barriers for students with disabilities in the design and delivery of work integrated learning. The Accessibility Coordinator, Work Integrated Learning will be positioned in the Employer Relations Unit within the Careers & Experience department.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Works in consultation with the Unit leader to develop an employer-facing campaign to promote and support the hiring of students with disabilities in WIL, as well as new graduate opportunities where openings exist
- Provides guidance to employers on strategies to implement the recruitment, onboarding and retention of students with disabilities into WIL opportunities that adheres to provincial and federal labour regulations
- Conducts targeted outreach to employers from various industries and sectors through telephone, virtual and in-person consultation (approximately 200 consultations)
- Assesses needs, handles objections and helps them navigate hiring processes for students with disabilities
- Ensures accurate documentation of all employer interactions within a shared database (Western Connect)
- Collects, reports, and shares information on employers who create and support WIL and new graduate opportunities for students with disabilities
- Collaborates with Employer Relationship Developers in the design and delivery of industry-specific events that connect employers with Western students with disabilities
- Facilitates connections to organizations and associations that support the hiring of individuals with disabilities (e.g. Lime Connect, Discoverability, Specialisterne)
- Collaborates with Faculties to identify and remove barriers to participation in WIL for students with disabilities
- Consults data and program information from relevant institutions and organizations to identify best practices for WIL program design and student support
- Supports Faculties in ensuring that WIL resources, workshops, and assignments are wholly accessible according to AODA standards
- Designs tools and resources to support students with disabilities before and during their work terms
- Works with Accessible Education to create clear pathways for students with disabilities who may require accommodation or other supports before and/or during their work terms
- Contributes to unit and department assessment priorities, and provides project data and reporting, as required

**Outcomes of the Role**:

- Students with disabilities have increased access to WIL and new graduate opportunities, as well as resources to support their success in WIL
- WIL programs and resources are wholly accessible to students with disabilities
- Increase in the hiring of students with disabilities in WIL and new graduate opportunities
- Positive and productive relationships with Faculty-based internship programs, Accessible Education, employers and community partners are built an
