**About Us**:
Western Continuing Studies (WCS) is the educational bridge between Western University and the global community. Through innovative leadership in lifelong learning, WCS creates and delivers responsive and accessible programs, including non-credit and credit courses in public interest, post-degree diplomas, experiential learning, French immersion and corporate training. By offering certificates and diplomas in partnerships with faculties, business organizations and professional associations, the unit serves over 2,000 students annually, including recent graduates, job seekers, employees, Western alumni, corporate clients, senior citizens and international students.
**Responsibilities**:
The Program Coordinator (Work Integrated Learning) will implement programming that connects post-degree students to employers in the local, regional, national and international community. The Program Coordinator will establish practicum opportunities for post-degree students, and will actively participate in a number of communities, including the university, employers and continuing education. The Program Coordinator will contribute to the unit's goals around increasing the visibility of Western Continuing Studies (WCS), as well as the profile of our students and graduates. As a unique benefit in recruitment for WCS diploma program enrolment, the practicum experience has a significant impact on contributing to the program area annual budget.
**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- University degree in a relevant field, including courses in human resources management or career counselling
- CHRP designation or CCDP designation (Canadian Certified Career Development Practitioner) designation is preferred
**Experience**:
- 3 years' experience working in post-secondary education coordinating programs and services for students
- Experience building and maintaining relationships with external organizations and community partners
- Experience in delivering training sessions, preferably in areas of career preparation
- Experience working with international students and/or newcomers to Canada preferred
- Experience coordinating practicum placements, co-ops or internships would be an asset
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, job search methods, and networking strategies
- Expertise in creating and delivering career-related programming
- Knowledge of legislation and university policies relating to work-integrated learning
- Labour market knowledge and ability to identify prospective contacts in key industries
- High degree of professionalism and knowledge of conflict resolution/management theory and practices
- Outstanding relationship building skills and ability to manage relationships with business and community organizations
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to coach students through career transitions, demonstrating tact, emotional intelligence, and cultural sensitivity
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of an organization
- Strong presentation skills with demonstrated ability to conduct training sessions and instruct others
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office
- Ability to problem solve, demonstrating resourcefulness, determination and resilience
- Ability to work independently, using strong organization and planning skills
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage activities both for self and others effectively
- Ability to use cold-calling skills to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with clients, peers and external stakeholders
- Able to manage competing priorities and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
