We value a workplace where diversity, in all of its forms, is encouraged and recognized for its contribution to a more creative, rewarding, and productive public service to our broader community.

Valuing diversity challenges us not only to be a public service that reflects the community we serve but also to create a more respectful and productive public service and to be a model for other employers in Nova Scotia.

**About Us**:
The Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration works as a trusted partner to grow the population, develop our current and future workforce, and foster inclusive, safe, and fair workplaces. This includes welcoming people from across Canada and the world, helping people prepare for job opportunities and build the skills they need, promoting safe work environments and helping employers and employees know their rights and responsibilities. We work together to create a future where everyone has an opportunity to thrive.

The Skills and Learning Branch provides a continuum of programs and services for individuals and employers that support learning achievement; inclusive engagement; labour market readiness, attachment, and participation; and workplace performance, all contributing to an inclusive, responsive, and productive workforce for the province. We achieve results by working respectfully with our staff and partners to develop new ideas, remove barriers and increase access for underrepresented groups and support innovative approaches to labour market development.

**About Our Opportunity**:
The Director of Student and Graduate Employment will lead the development and successful implementation of strategies, policies, and programs that play a key role in contributing to the development of the province's labour market, including leadership for student and graduate employment programs. This leadership role is critical to fulfilling government's priority to retain and attract youth to the province, by working with partners within and outside government to improve work experience and job prospects for students and graduates. The Director maintains strong relationships on an ongoing basis both internally with various departments and agencies across government, as well as with an array of interested parties external to government.

**Primary Accountabilities**:
The Director is accountable to formulate, develop, interpret and manage policies and guidelines pertaining to the Province's portfolio of student and graduate employment programs, which support Nova Scotia organizations to become effective employers of students and graduates throughout Nova Scotia.

Current programs include Graduate to Opportunity - Grow (GTO - Grow), GTO - Innovation Stream, the Student Summer Skills Incentive (SKILL), and the Co-operative Education Incentive (CEI). This includes directing research and analysis, setting service delivery standards, ensuring consistent and effective agreement management, and measuring and evaluating the programs’ outputs and outcomes.

The Director also ensures that programs are integrated and aligned with the strategic priorities of the Province, Department and Branch, and continue to effectively meet the needs of individual Nova Scotians and employers to address the labour market opportunities and challenges facing the province.
