Transportation Advisor

Mott MacDonald's Urban Planning & Mobility Practice supports our business across Canada with expertise in transportation planning, modeling and policy development, urban development, and master planning, structured decision-making, and environmental planning & approvals. Our projects include transportation policy, operations & change management, and infrastructure design. Our Canadian offices are in Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary. In addition to both leading and supporting projects in Canada, we support the delivery of projects for Mott MacDonald's clients across the US and globally.- Duties will include:
- Project management of smaller projects or project coordination for larger projects
- Specific tasks may include work planning, budget monitoring, and progress reporting.
- Engagement of technical stakeholders such as municipal officials and transit operators, including effective relationship building, meeting organization, and facilitation and oversight of document control functions;
- Participating in multi-disciplinary teams and undertaking technical analysis;
- Development of strategic and operational policy for public sector clients;
- Contributing to a range of studies related to transit planning, emerging transportation technologies, travel demand management, and transportation equity;
- Writing technical reports;
- Effectively communicating technical analysis to technical and non-technical audiences;
- Supporting public engagement and communications efforts;
- Working with technical information and data, for example, mapping data, modeling outputs, input to concept designs, etc;
- Creating and contributing to deliverables including proposals, reports, and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences;
- Other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in Transportation Planning or similar, or bachelor’s degree with additional commensurate experience;
- 5 to 10 years of professional experience or someone who can demonstrate commensurate experience with aligned personal and professional attributes
- Ability to achieve one or more professional designations, such as
- Registered Professional Planner (RPP),
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or
- Project Management Professional (PMP);
- Competencies in
- Stakeholder engagement;
- Community consultation;
- Technical writing;
- Data analysis & visualization;
- Urban governance, capacity building, and business operations;
- Policy development; and
- Options Appraisal and Evaluation (e.g. Structured Decision-making).
- Demonstrated experience in one or more focus areas:
- Transportation equity;
- Integration of transportation and land use;
- Solving complex interdisciplinary urban challenges;
- Multi-modal transportation infrastructure design; and
- Transportation operations
- A passion for positive social outcomes
- Knowledge of emerging transportation technologies and business models;
- Educational background in Urban planning or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience working with multi-modal transportation issues and projects including, various modes of public transit;
- Understanding of business cases and project appraisal using cost/benefit methods;
- Strong written and oral communication skills including the communication of complex technical information to non-technical audiences;
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills;
- Teambuilding and people-management skills and experience;
- Demonstrable background in working both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team;
- A history of achieving milestones and meeting deadlines
