Position Summary

Reporting to the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent is engaged in the repair, improvement and daily preparation of the golf course grounds. This includes meeting or exceeding the established standards for guest and employee satisfaction, along with effective cost controls for the Maintenance department. The Assistant Superintendent leads by example by taking a proactive position to all issues concerning the operation of the golf course.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead by example, setting the benchmark of performance in the area of innovation, motivation and animation for the Maintenance team.
- Support the interviewing and hiring of seasonal staff positions.
- Direct training of new employees and provide coaching on day to day performance, with a focus on effective health and safety practices.
- Recognize and motivate team members to ensure a supportive work environment and enhance performance.
- Provide a strong vision for continually striving to improve playability of the golf course and improve the aesthetics of the golf course grounds.
- Recommend new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize maintenance costs and improve course conditions and as approved, plan, develop and implement changes.
- Support capital improvement projects.
- Maintain constant awareness of the treatment of the daily environment by upholding strong ethics in products used, displayed and disposed of.
- Responsible for the Environmental Stewarding of the Golf Course.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Diploma in Turfgrass Management.
- Restricted Pesticide License.
- Ability to calibrate sprayers, spreaders, scientific instruments, irrigation control software, etc.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and build relationship with all stakeholders.
- Solid understanding in preventative maintenance systems.
- Basic understanding of mechanical operations of engines and hydraulics for guidance of equipment manager
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Required to lift over 50 lbs.
- Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and toxic chemicals.
