This is a high-impact role that requires a solid understanding of the ESG landscape and implications for Lifeco’s business and social impact. The leader in this role will also be responsible for building a team of experts across environmental, social, and governance issues to drive program strategy and associated disclosure areas in the company’s operating jurisdictions to deliver comprehensive program and annual reporting of Lifeco’s ESG progress and performance.

**What you will do**
- Build an enterprise-wide roadmap for Lifeco’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, transparency, and disclosures tied to emerging global regulations and oversee internal and external stakeholder engagement.
- Build an ESG disclosures strategy and next-generation sustainability reporting plan to drive greater transparency and trust with Lifeco’s customers and meet global corporate sustainability reporting regulations.
- Advise on reporting requirements and liaise with ESG & Sustainability councils on requirements for ESG data.
- Recommend reporting strategy to support ESG & Sustainability commitments and provide timely updates on program progress.
- Oversee production of group wide ESG & Sustainability and other reports in coordination with Communications; Partner with Finance, Communications and Investor relations to prepare ESG data for external reporting; understand and tell the Canada Life story.
- Build and lead a team responsible for executing Lifeco’s disclosures roadmap, including ESG materiality, issues management and operationalization, stakeholder engagement and external partnerships.
- Build and deploy a technology solution (in partnership with Technology teams) that will track sustainability performance across Lifeco and report accurate and timely progress and performance; Partner with IT to advise on governance, architecture and management of ESG data.

**What you will bring**
- Post-secondary education in a related field
- 10+ years of experience in the financial services/insurance industry
- Superior project management experience
- Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills, ideally developed in a large organization
- Passion for sustainability and social impact
- Understanding of business and key business concepts (i.e., finance, accounting, statistics, marketing, etc.) is a requirement
- Deep understanding of the Canadian ESG space, including an awareness of key stakeholders and influencers across the country
- Comprehensive knowledge of the regulatory framework within which the group operates and understanding of regulatory developments
- Excellent communications skills with the ability to convey and deliver strong presentations to company leadership, Senior Executives and Board member
- Experience scanning the external environment in order to assess current and emerging risks and stay ahead of industry trends
- Ability to develop highly effective long-term plans in line with the company’s strategic objectives; highly adept at setting goals and determining priorities, and identifying potential risks and opportunities
- Inspires a vision that adapts to new realities, articulating meaningful expectations and creating clear pathways to desired outcomes.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and with flexibility of approach
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills
- Able to foster collaborative relationships across functions and businesses to facilitate cooperation and information exchanges that improve customer and business outcomes.
