**Overview**:
The BC Parks Foundation’s goal is to create the greatest system of parks and protected areas on Earth. It has launched a 25x25 expedition with four objectives, including protecting 25% of land and waters, safeguarding biodiversity through 25 million observations of nature, helping people enjoy 25 safe and responsible park activities, and improving human health through British Columbians spending a minimum of 2.5 hours a week in nature.

The Foundation measures its success by meeting these mission targets, and by the number of supporters and resources (funds, volunteer hours, in-kind, etc.) generated for its mission. A key element of achieving its goals, objectives, and metrics is to make it possible for all British Columbians, especially equity-deserving people, to experience time in parks, increasing their enjoyment, learning, health, and stewardship of nature. The Foundation makes it easy for all British Columbians to get outside, by providing resources bookable program, guides, and grants.

**Role Summary**:
This role will be responsible for working with partners, engaging the public to participate in community science and volunteer in protected areas, and designing and implementing a protected-area volunteer management system. The goal is to scale up community science efforts across the province to fill critical knowledge gaps and contribute to data-informed decision making for the conservation and management of biodiversity and habitats in BC’s protected areas. This role will also support capacity building by facilitating workshops and online training for volunteers and other community members. This role will work closely with the Land and Programs team at the Foundation.

**Responsibilities**:
The Community Science Coordinator will:

- Conduct an inventory and gap analysis of biodiversity knowledge and community science efforts in British Columbia to identify priorities and solutions for protected-area management
- Identify, establish and maintain relationships with government agencies, Indigenous groups, community groups, scientific, educational, tourism, and other partners to scale up the use of community science
- Design, test, implement and manage a provincial-scale protected area volunteer network
- Recruit and coordinate volunteers to conduct biodiversity and habitat monitoring on Foundation-held conservation properties
- Facilitate the use and analysis of community science data by researchers and protected-area managers for advancing biodiversity knowledge and data-informed management decision making
- Create and maintain online resources, including training materials, for community science and community-based monitoring
- Establish and administer online community science projects of the BC Parks Foundation (e.g., on Zooniverse)
- Build and activate communities of practice for community science, including organizing and facilitating workshops
- Track results and evaluate and adjust strategies based on performance
- Assist with communications to promote community science, including quarterly and annual reports, blogs, newsletter articles and social media content
- Contribute to fundraising through grants, donations, and sponsorships
- Contribute to a constructive, results oriented, and inspiring organizational culture
- Other duties as required, including occasional weekend work and outdoor field work

**Requirements**:

- Minimum 2 years of experience working in environmental monitoring or community science
- Minimum 2 years of experience recruiting, training and organizing volunteers
- Minimum 1 year of experience building and maintaining relationships with external groups
- Undergraduate degree in conservation biology, environmental science, ecology or related field
- Excellent knowledge of and experience with community science tools and other survey methods such as iNaturalist, eBird, eDNA, and remote cameras
- Research, data collection, and analytical skills
- Strong project management skills, highly organized with extraordinary attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to maintain a high degree o
