**Position Description**:
You will assist and facilitate the implementation of safety and security procedures in both the Snack Lab and the Science Store, work both independently and with other team members and departments. You will also sell, prepare, and serve Snack Lab items, perform cleaning procedures/tasks, and provide product knowledge and merchandising in the Snack Lab and the Science Store. Our Snack Lab complements our visitors’ experiences by offering tasty treats, such as chocolate, chips, nachos, and coffee/tea. In the Science Store, your enthusiasm and customer service skills will play a key role in expanding our visitors’ unique learning experiences by connecting them with science toys and kits that they can engage with at home.
This position offers approximately 10 - 25 hours per week. This position also requires flexibility with regular weekend shifts, periodic weekday shifts, and changing shift schedules as determined by operational needs. Once onboarded, you will begin working in the Snack Lab for 2 to 3 months then get trained in the Science Store. Afterwards, you’ll be scheduled as needed in both shift locations.
As a facility, Science World is generally open to the public seven days a week, with some extended evening hours in the summer months. Typical office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm, with front-facing and operational teams also working a variety of shifts including weekends, holidays, and evenings. Hours of work and other related requirements will be scheduled according to business needs, and this may include special events on evenings, weekends, and holidays.
**Responsibilities**:
- Enhance our visitor experience by being helpful, welcoming, cheerful, and attentive to visitor needs in both the Snack Lab and Science Store
- Enforce rules and regulations for visitors, ensuring proper health and safety protocols are followed as they are adapted
- Ability to resolve concerns in a timely and professional manner when dealing with difficult situations. Must demonstrate strong conflict resolution and troubleshooting skills
- Perform proficient operation of our sales cash register, Profitek POS Systems
- Utilize tools and resources to facilitate learning in Science World by performing selected product demonstrations to visitors when scheduled on weekends
- Prepare, sell, and clean up food and beverages in our Snack Lab daily
- Ensure the accuracy and efficiency in the process of all daily cash and card transactions, including end of day reconciliation
- Assist with receiving stock, shelving, displays, promotions, and merchandising of the Store and Snack lab
- Maintain tidiness and cleanliness in the Snack Lab and Science Store by completing hourly, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks
- Perform administrative duties as needed and assist in the smooth operation of all ancillary services
- Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role
**Qualifications**:
- Previous experience in sales, customer service, retail, tourism, cash-handling, and cash/ticket terminals are considered an asset
- Must have speed and accuracy in handling cash for high volume sales as well as proficient cash reconciliation experience
- Independent, self-motivated, outgoing, organized and experienced in meeting and exceeding visitor needs and expectations of all ages
- Dependable, reliable, and flexible with problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and visitor experience skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and enjoy creating positive experiences for others in a busy environment
- Responsive and respectful team player capable of working in a dynamic team environment
- Ability to consistently monitor and encourage safe behaviours
- While shifts are given based on business levels, you must be able to work a minimum of 64 hours per month, with at least one workday on the weekend. Consistent availability that includes weekends, weekdays, and statutory holidays is preferred. Must also be able to work school breaks (winter, spring, and summer breaks)
