The Mission of Western International is to create, promote and support the University’s international strategy, while acting as a resource to faculties and departments across the Western community. Western International includes the Western English Language Centre, the International and Exchange Student Centre, International Learning, International Student Recruitment and International Relations.
Key goals of Western International include:
- fostering international learning opportunities
- recruiting and supporting international students
- enhancing overall global activity and awareness
The International and Exchange Student Centre (IESC) offers a full range of programs and services to support international students during their stay at Western.
**Responsibilities**:
- Assist with the English Conversation Program (ECP)
- Assist with ECP participant registration and conducting one-on-one or group welcome meetings with new participants
- Attend and assist with ECP events and training (e.g., room set-up, agenda planning, participate in ice-breakers and discussions, etc.)
- Review weekly log reports from volunteer English Conversation Facilitators (ECFs)
- Assist with Facilitator evaluation (e.g., input summary notes, consolidate data for supervisor review)
- Prepare Certificates of Participation for ECP participants
- Administrative work including data entry, filing, research, collecting/collating information and packets, as well as helping with special projects
- Assist with other IESC programs and Events
- Complete all required trainings for the position, including IESC training, Western’s online Health and Safety trainings (WHIMIS, Supporting Disclosures of Gender-Based and Sexual Violence at Western, Worker Heath & Safely at Western, Safe Campus Community, Accessibility in Service, Cyber Safety Awareness, and Building Inclusivity - Equity, Diversity & Inclusion), IT trainings (Convio, Cascade, etc.) and others as required for your role.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and mid-term check ins with supervisor
- Other tasks as assigned
**Qualifications**
**Education**:
- Must be a full time student at Western (enrolled in minimum 3.5 courses), and expect to retain full-time student status for the duration of this appointment
**Experience**:
- Previous experience with the International and Exchange Student Centre as a volunteer or program participant preferred
Skills, Abilities and Expertise:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong work ethic and sense of responsibility
- Team worker
- Strong computer skills (familiarity with Excel, Microsoft Teams, Outlook and Zoom); openness to learning new technology
- Self-directed and able to work under mínimal supervision
- Reliable and dependable with the ability to consistently work assigned schedule
- Ability to work in a manner compliant with confidentiality requirements
- Knowledge of the International and Exchange Student Centre and Western International and the programs and services offered
- Knowledge of the University and its services
