The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) changes lives by bringing people and knowledge together to reduce the harms of alcohol and other drugs on society. We partner with public, private and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to improve the health and safety of people living in Canada. An NGO with a national focus, CCSA envisions a healthier Canadian society where evidence transforms approaches to substance use.

CCSA acknowledges that First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) people are the holders of Traditional Indigenous Knowledge. We respect the power of the Indigenous research methods and of Traditional Knowledge and commit to learning about and incorporating this knowledge into our work with proper guidance.

Reporting to the Director, Indigenous Partnerships and Strategy (or designate), the team of FNMI Support and Partnership Navigators (FNMISPN) will work collaboratively in navigating, developing and nurturing reciprocal relationships with FNMI communities that will move CCSA closer to its goal.

The FNMISPN will help build CCSA’s internal capacity to respect and understand FNMI distinctions including Traditional Indigenous Knowledge and the principals and governance frameworks that protect it, such as the Ownership Control Access and Possession (OCAP) principals, and Ownership Control Access Stewardship (OCAS).

**Responsibilities**
- Support the implementation of the Indigenous Partnership Strategic Framework, respectful of the _Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action_, _United Nations Declaration of Indigenous Rights_, OCAP principals, OCAS and other relevant data and research governance principles
- Nurture reciprocal relationships with FNMI communities and national organizations, such as the Thunderbird Partnership Foundation, Assembly of First Nations, Métis National Council and Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami
- Work closely with and provide strategic advice to CCSA stream leads, staff and FNMI partners on implementing codeveloped research projects, resources and tools
- Participate in and help navigate FNMI engagement at national conferences following FNMI protocols and CCSA’s policies and procedures
- Help build CCSA’s internal capacity to cultivate reciprocal relationships with FNMI communities and organizations and create meaningful reconciliation initiatives
- Work with the CCSA leadership and staff to ensure CCSA carries out its work in an environment that recognizes the impact of colonization and is aware of the issues that have led to significant substance use issues facing Indigenous people
- Participate in implementing Reconciliation Gatherings and provide strategic, creative ideas to engage CCSA staff to increase their knowledge about FNMI communities
- Work with CCSA stream leads, staff and the Quality, Risk and Performance Measurement division to establish and track measures in assessing CCSA’s progress toward reconciliation
- Work with CCSA stream leads, staff and FNMI partners to construct and implement end-to-end strategic partnership plans, creating and maintaining all documentation
- Ensure that any concerns are communicated and escalated as necessary

**Qualifications**
- Minimum of two years of experience in working with FNMI national organizations
- University degree or college diploma in a relevant discipline (e.g., science, arts and humanities, Indigenous health and wellness, health administration, adult education) or an equivalent experience engaging with First Nations, Métis or Inuit governments, communities and organizations
- Good understanding of the distinctions between FNMI Peoples
- Understanding of FNMI national organizations, governance structures and processes
- Commitment to the _Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action_ and understanding of the continuing impacts of colonization
- Experience facilitating discussions leading to consensus with multi
- partner groups (e.g., leadership team, health professionals, public, healthcare managers and other decision influencers, private industry)
- Experience presenting to diverse audiences, including a range of partners and decision makers
- Strong analytical skills; process and results-oriented
- Enthusiastic and high-energy team player with a passion for engaging partners
- Strong focus on critical and analytical thinking and strategic problem-solving
- Excellent communication skills
