**Major Responsibilities**:

- Implements detailed plans and recommends policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements.
- Supervises, motivates and trains assigned staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others.
- Supervises the day-to-day operation of all assigned staff including the scheduling, assigning, and reviewing of work. Authorizes and coordinates vacation and overtime requests. Monitors and evaluates staff performance, approves salary increments, hears grievances and recommends disciplinary action when necessary.
- Assigns work and coordinates staff portfolios, streamlines workflows and ensures compliance with relevant regulations, guidelines, statutes and local issues.
- Provides input into and administers assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
- Conducts analysis and prepares reports on the unit’s performance on a regular basis and develops filming policies and procedures which aim to promote Toronto as an ideal filming location.
- Develops and implements operational procedures and processes, maintains manuals and trains FTDMO staff.
- Develops protocols and resolves issues related to permitting fees, refund requests and new initiatives. Acts proactively to seek input of clients on the performance of the work conducted by the unit in order to build critical business relationships between the manager and division heads, members of council, agencies, boards, commissions, committees, industry partners, resident groups and business associations.
- Provides alternate solutions to film productions to avoid hot spots or troubled neighbourhoods with a history of issues related to filming in the neighbourhood using precedents and established guidelines.
- Supervises the review of incoming requests for film permits and determines whether the request complies with City policies and guidelines. Provides information, clarification and proposes changes as needed and ensures the distribution of requests to city officials, public, councillors and the police.
- Provides supervision in the resolution of escalated logístical problems and complaints regarding filming requests and communicates pertinent information to local councillors, civic officials, residents, business owners and police, notifying the appropriate officials in the case of non-compliance.
- Participates in the preparation and delivery of presentations and consultations with other levels of government, the local film industry, members of the public, resident groups and business associations in order to foster the growth and understanding of Toronto’s film industry.
- Establishes and tracks area moratoriums, media enquiries and ensures customer service.
- Supports, encourages and implements relevant objectives and initiatives.
- Coordinates maintenance and enhancements of the film permitting system with IT services, ensuring there are no service delays for clients and FTDMO staff.
- Works closely with film productions for access and financial recoveries related to the installation and usage of power drop kiosks at filming locations to reduce overall environmental and neighbourhood impact.
- Provides supervision on site locations and community meetings, conducts site visits to monitor usage and suitability assessments of locations for filming.
- Coordinates any required site preparation including utility upgrades, policing and clean-up ensuring both readiness and the return of the site to its original condition.
- Monitors trends in the industry and the impact of the programs and actions of the FTDMO, and makes recommendations for change as needed.
- Authorizes and approves by-law exemptions on behalf of the FTDMO using established guidelines and contacting the appropriate officials in order to grant requests.
