The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Specialist contributes to building safe and inclusive working and learning environments where all people are welcomed, valued and treated equitably and with fairness. The Specialist develops and implements projects that advance NAIT’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy, including consultation services, workshop delivery, and resource development. They also take the lead on coordinating and delivering programs and events that commemorate or celebrate days of significance for equity-deserving communities. The Specialist also contributes to projects that support the strategic priorities of the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and Global Education and Partnerships, including supporting the operation of the International and Intercultural Community Centre.
**Key Responsibilities**:
Program Planning - commemoration and celebration
- Develop, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate programs that contribute to the development of an inclusive campus community, such as National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, Black History Month, International Women’s Day, and the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
Capacity-building
- Develop and facilitate professional development workshops, learning opportunities.
Consultation and Collaboration
- Research and provide expertise on best practices and leading methodologies
- Support leaders and groups across NAIT to develop, implement and assess department EDI action plans
OEDI Projects and Initiatives
**Skills & Abilities**:
- Knowledge of concepts of intersectionality, anti-racism, queer theory, gender equity, racial and social justice, de-colonization, unconscious bias, and intercultural competence.
- Knowledge of issues facing historically excluded and equity-deserving communities in higher education.
- Substantial knowledge of and experience with outcomes-based event planning
- Ability to facilitate positive, inclusive conversations and ability to interact with people who are resistant to change, related to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Strategic and systems thinking and goal development skills.
- Project management skills.
- Workshop development and facilitation skills.
- Understanding of NAIT’s mission, goals, and values and department priorities.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and other virtual engagement tools
**Qualifications**:
- Related post-secondary diploma
- Considerable years of related experience
- Undergraduate degree is preferred. A Master's degree would be an asset
- 4+ years of experience in a post-secondary or other social justice organization with a focus on EDI capacity-building and education delivery is preferred
- Program development and implementation experience
- Experience facilitating educational, social, and change management programs that advance equity and inclusion
- Experience working with individuals from historically excluded and/or equity-deserving groups
- Equivalencies may be considered
**Remuneration**:$2,660.87 - $3,569.36 bi-weekly, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Advisor/Specialist II)
This position is covered by the AUPE (Alberta Union of Provincial Employees) Collective Agreement.
