University Health Network (UHN) is a research hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto and a member of the Toronto Academic Health Science Network. The Toronto General Hospital Research Institute (TGHRI) is a multidisciplinary research institute, focusing on advancing the understanding of many different diseases, including, but not limited to, cardiovascular disease, respiratory and critical care, diabetes, infectious disease, autoimmunity, multi-organ transplant, regenerative medicine, psychosocial care and health systems.

As an integral part of the TGHRI, the **Business Administrator** is responsible for supporting translational research efforts for the research institute in the following areas: budget and financial coordination, communications and marketing, program support, special projects, process improvement, and office/administrative functions. The incumbent should have proven communication skills and understanding of the complexities of the research environment gained through experience working in a research institute, academic institution or not-for-profit. It is imperative that the person in this position exercises sound judgment and independence, as well as discretion.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Tracking Institutional expenses Communicate with internal and external stakeholders on budget issues as required; working with Director and Manager on the institute budget
- Preparing invoices/billings; ensuring bills tracking and payment
- Liaising with RFS, Plexxus, A/P, Foundations and others as needed
- Developing communications with all internal and external stakeholders
- Managing TGHRI websites and social media activity
- Preparing presentation slides, reports and documents as directed
- Supporting Institute committees as required
- Coordinating the Annual Activity Report process, including gathering productivity data for faculty and preparing evaluation material for TGHRI leadership
- Coordinating institute events (i.e. Town halls, TGHRI research day), seminar series and visiting speakers
- Assisting in strategic plan implementation and develop progress reports as required
- Coordinating and track institutional initiatives, such as internal grant competitions, as requested
- Organizing internal grant competitions/peer-reviews
- Working with the Manager to fulfill reporting requirements to internal and external stakeholders
- Organizing meetings as directed; preparing minutes and follow-up on actions
- Providing administrative support to the Institute Director and Manager
- Assisting in faculty and research staff recruitments and onboarding
- May provide supervision for assigned personnel

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, health management/sciences, or communications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, published material an asset
- Five (5) years related administrative support experience
- A strong background in finance is important
