**Accessibility Support Officer**

Reporting to the Director, Accessibility and Testing Services, the incumbent supports, implements, evaluates, and promotes services for students with disabilities. The incumbent coordinates access to accommodations, provides college and external resources and referral information, provides short-term accommodation plans and advocates on the students’ behalf.

Additionally, legal and ethical statutes are reviewed and interpreted to ensure that Mohawk College is compliant with the Ontario Human Right’s Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, FIPPA, PHIPA, and Mohawk College’s Academic Accommodation for Students with Disabilities Policy.

**Responsibilities**:
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
**Accommodation Planning**
- Work with applicants and students with disabilities and help facilitate their education through ongoing involvement in their recruitment to Mohawk College, transition to post-secondary education, college life, graduation, and transition to employment.
- Develops basic, interim accommodation plans, as appropriate, and arranges other supports/services based on documented recommendations and guidance from Accessibility Counsellors and/or Director, Accessibility and Testing Services
- Facilitates renewal of Accommodation Letters through Accommodate system, as referred by Accessibility Counsellor or ALS Front Desk.
- Meets with students to provide basic accommodations for Pre-Admission Tests, consulting with Accessibility Counsellors/Director as appropriate.
- Recognizes Equity Diversity and Inclusion designated student populations, students registered in Access programs, as well as IESS and Indigenous students at OSTTC and Six Nations Polytechnic, International Student Services and Academic Upgrading applicants/students to offer ongoing support to simplify access to ALS services.
- Case notes are kept for each student in compliance with regulations.
- Works with College facilities department to ensure ergonomic furniture is in classrooms as required to support student accommodation needs.
- Monitors the Accessibility Support Officer inbox for critical and timely accommodation requests
- Monitors the Accommodate workflow to ensure accommodation letters are distributed at the start of the semester.

**Program Support**
- Stays current on community services and organizations in order to facilitate referrals. Identifies and collaborates with community resources to build a robust network of community partners.
- Provides one-on-one support to students on how to access the Testing Centre, the Learning Support Centre, and other college resources.
- Reviews safety and evacuation procedures with students who experience medical or mobility disabilities and works with students, ALS staff, Security, facilities, relevant community agencies, and the student’s faculty to review the procedures to minimize risk to the student and the college environment.
- Coordinates the matching of Peer Supports and Accessibility Coaches with students.
- Runs reports through the Accommodate system on a scheduled basis for all students with a permanent disability to ensure consideration for financial awards and compliance with Tuition Fee Policy.
- Creates part-time contracts for computerized note takers, tutors, and one-on-one support persons as required and under the direction of Director, Accessibility and Testing Services.
- Provides one-to-one and group support for students to learn the features of their Accommodate portal.

**Facilitation and Outreach**
- Transition programs and orientation sessions are implemented to prepare students for post-secondary education in advance of enrolment.
- Promotes Mohawk’s accessibility services to students with disabilities to encourage knowledge of services and support prior to enrolment.
- Virtual and In-person presentations are utilized and the on-line sites are updated for student access. Virtual and in-person workshops are presented to faculty, staff, and student groups regarding access to ALS.
