The Strategic Engagement and Compensation Policy (SECP) branch within the Health Workforce (HW) Division of Alberta Health (AH) plays a pivotal role in shaping and implementing innovative compensation policies for health service providers in Alberta. Our mission is to develop, evaluate, and negotiate compensation structures that align with the government's strategic objectives and deliver cost-effective, high-quality healthcare services.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director for the Strategic Compensation Engagement Unit. This role is crucial in leading our efforts to develop and negotiate compensation policies that support the diverse needs of healthcare providers in Alberta. The Director will be the primary expert in provider compensation policy, offering strategic advice to executive leaders, and spearheading initiatives to advance our branch's objectives.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Executive Director, Strategic Engagement and Compensation Policy, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of healthcare compensation in Alberta, influence policy at the highest levels, and contribute to the delivery of effective, high-quality healthcare services. Responsibilities for the position include:
**1. Compensation Strategy Development**:

- Develop and implement strategic compensation policies for physicians, allied health providers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Create and lead the development of innovative compensation models, including Fee-for-Service (FFS) and alternative models that enhance healthcare delivery in Alberta.
- Establish frameworks for monitoring and evaluating compensation programs, including performance measures, and oversee their implementation.

**2. Stakeholder Engagement and Policy Development**:

- Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including Alberta Health Services (AHS), Alberta Medical Association (AMA), Alberta Dental Association (ADA), Alberta Association of Optometrists (AAO), Alberta Pharmacists' Association (APA), and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
- Represent the ministry on committees governing compensation programs and report on program results.
- Develop and implement policies, processes, and standards, addressing any gaps and ensuring alignment with government objectives.

**3. Strategic Direction and Innovation**:

- Provide strategic direction for developing new and innovative collaborative compensation concepts for healthcare providers.
- Lead efforts to align short-term and long-term compensation strategies with provincial and national health care standards.
- Identify and seize opportunities for program growth and development, ensuring integration with existing programs and government priorities.

**4. Professional Association Engagement**:

- Oversee the development of strategic negotiation frameworks aligned with government objectives.
- Brief senior executives on negotiation frameworks and provide expert advice on emerging trends and issues in healthcare compensation.
- Engage with Alberta Health and other government areas to ensure support and acceptance of proposed strategies.

**5. Policy Development and Coordination**:

- Advise the Minister, Deputy Minister, Assistant Deputy Minister, and Executive Director on policy matters, budget analysis, and strategic projects.
