**Duties**:
Reporting to the Dean of Academic and Career Preparation, the Volunteer Tutor Coordinator serves as a member of the Faculty of Academic and Career Preparation and a member of the larger Vancouver Island University community. The primary responsibility is to manage volunteer tutor programs on both Nanaimo and Cowichan campuses, which includes training tutors to support VIU students and potential students, as appropriate, and matching tutors with students for face to face and/or online support.

In addition, the Volunteer Tutor Coordinator will work with Community Adult Literacy Program partners to provide training on special topics and best practices for their coordinators and tutors.

The incumbent will develop an effective learning environment for tutors to work with students who have individual learning styles and diverse cultural and educational backgrounds. The incumbent will have a strong knowledge of adult education practices and a willingness to mentor tutors from a wide range of disciplines, cultures and academic backgrounds.

**Required Qualifications**:
Master's Degree in relevant field, from an appropriately accredited institution. Experience working with volunteers. Knowledgeable about theories and practices in education, adult learning, and tutoring. In-depth understanding of equity, reconciliation, diversity, and inclusion with particular appreciation of the issues faced by marginalized communities.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Experience teaching in a post-secondary setting.
