**Nature and Scope**:
The YMCA of Greater Vancouver has delivered employment programs for over 35 years. Over this period, the organization has become one of the leading service providers in the provision of youth-oriented employment services and other underrepresented groups in the labour force. These programs are designed to support a wide range of job seekers, from youth with multiple barriers to employment attempting to land their first ever job, to newcomers to Canada looking to land their first job in their new home. The YMCA of Greater Vancouver has assisted thousands of job seekers in developing vital skills, acquiring vocational certification, building confidence and securing sustainable employment.

This position has the primary responsibility of working directly with participants of the program to deliver pre-employment and employment skills training in the classroom. This position will also supervise participants’ placements in the YCafe and Training Kitchen and provide on-going follow-up supports. The position will also involve assisting in setting up structure and process for the delivery of the program, outreach to the community in order to promote and recruit participants, and establishing connections with businesses in order to develop job opportunities as participants move towards employment. The work environment is very fast-paced, with a high volume of program participants.

**Major Responsibilities**:

- Supports the day to day operations of the Café, including opening and closing duties, maintenance of cleanliness standards, inventory counts, and more
- Trains participants on hot and cold drink preparation and proper use of coffee equipment
- Shows participants how to properly open, use and clean the Café
- Helps to ensure that the Café is fully compliant with appropriate health and safety and food safety legislation.
- Follows good financial practice, including cash handling and recording.
- Supports the development of the café menu.
- Helps to ensure YCafé is an attractive and welcoming place for both participants and customers
- Support participants in practice their customer service skills
- Facilitates and develops in-classroom pre-employment, job search, career workshops and presentations

- Initiates and maintains on-going contacts with a variety of business and industry representatives and job placement/training agencies to promote programs for participant placement

**Qualifications**:

- Post-Secondary Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in a related discipline, or equivalent work experience
- Previous experience as a Café Supervisor, Team Lead, or Barista
- Hands-on experience with professional coffee machines and preparing cold and hot beverages
- Availability to work flexible shifts (7 am - 3 pm or 11 am - 7 pm during the week, as well as 9-5 on some weekends)
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate participants to succeed in their work experience placements
- Strong facilitation skills with proven experience leading pre-employment, job search, career information workshops and presentations
- Experience with developing and facilitating community-based programming and services
- Computer proficient
