Seasonal Boat Launch Captain

**SUMMARY**:
The Launch Captain will work on the Club’s two antique launches, the Kwasind and Hiawatha, both 60-foot ferries that exemplify the strong traditions of the RCYC. This position requires strong dedication to Club objectives, a conscious approach to duties, and willingness to work long hours and weekends during heavy season to ensure maximum Member satisfaction.

Reports directly to the Director of Marine & Island Facilities and the Head Launch Captain.

**DUTIES**:

- Maintain a tight schedule with a professional and friendly attitude while safely boarding and disembarking passengers
- Perform daily inspections of vessels and maintain accurate reporting and keep an accurate ship’s log
- Identify risks and hazards and take appropriate action, maintain a mindset geared towards safety at all times
- Ensure that Transport Canada Laws and all other governing bodies laws are fully adhered to
- Help passengers who need assistance while boarding and disembarking the vessel
- Other duties as assigned by the Head Launch Captain

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma)
- Knowledge of marine repair and maintenance methods an asset
- Knowledge of Toronto Harbour and its vessels and politics is important and considered an asset
- Minimum up to date Limited Masters Vessel Specific Ticket
- Three years’ ship handling experience
- Limited Engineering (Small Vessel Machinery Operator’s Certificate) will also be required
- Must pass a Transport Canada inspection if qualified for a limited master, vessel specific ticket (Master 150 ton and above are exempt)
- Valid Marine Medical
- Marine Basic First Aid
- Marine Emergency Duties Training (or STCW equivalent)
- Must be a team player
- Must have proper four bar epaulettes, black shoes and socks; uniforms will be provided
