About the Opportunity:

The Port Captain is responsible for the operation of inspected passenger vessels, ensuring the safety and security of both crew and guests, while promoting an enjoyable experience and environmental stewardship. During the off-peak season, the Port Captain will also assist with maintenance and special projects as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure the safety and security of passengers, crew, and the vessel. Direct deck crew assignments and provide guidance. Monitor navigation and maneuvering of the vessel from the bridge. Maintain up-to-date navigation charts and ensure bridge equipment is operational. Ensure readiness of lifesaving and firefighting equipment. Deliver exceptional guest experiences as outlined in our service principles. Oversee pre-cruise preparations, crew supervision, and vessel reporting. Conduct pre-cruise briefings to relay important information to the crew. Perform regular safety inspections to confirm vessel seaworthiness. Collaborate with other departments to fulfill special guest requests, ensuring satisfaction. Enforce adherence to safety standards among staff and guests. Ensure crew compliance with personal protective equipment requirements during critical tasks. Participate in the execution of safety programs, including emergency drills, and report findings to management. Assist in maintaining all ship systems and boarding facilities. Conduct necessary checks as per the maintenance schedule. Monitor for navigational hazards and ensure proper location of aids. Comply with all relevant regulations and safety protocols. Execute additional projects as assigned by management. Provide training and orientation for new crew members. Uphold performance management standards in all personnel matters. Foster positive relationships with department heads and colleagues. Encourage teamwork among staff. Address guest concerns in collaboration with management using effective communication skills. Maintain accurate shift records, including logs and safety documentation. Ensure proper reporting of incidents and safety inspections. Maintain vessel cleanliness and assist with sanitation as needed. Facilitate safe boarding and disembarking of passengers and crew. Assist with mooring operations as necessary. Support engineering staff in operating and maintaining ship equipment. Adhere to scheduled work times and maintain professional appearance. Manage crew scheduling and time-off requests. Ensure training and certifications for marine operations are current. Review and recommend updates to departmental policies and safety plans. Assist in budget preparation and strategic planning for marine operations. Collaborate with management to enhance operational efficiency and guest experience. Participate in maintenance projects during the off-season. Support recruitment and onboarding of new crew members. Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Master 150 Gross Tonnage certification. Consideration for candidates with a Master Limited over 60 Gross Tonnage certification and relevant experience. Current Marine Basic First Aid certification. Valid Transport Canada approved marine medical certification. Minimum of two years of experience in the marine industry. Restricted Operator Certificate ROC-MC. Simulated Electronic Navigation (Limited) certification. Candidates with additional skills such as ship-handling and customer service will be preferred. Positive attitude and strong work ethic. Ability to lift up to 45 pounds and work in various weather conditions. Must be available for work on major holidays.
