**Duties**:
The project is planned to investigate tungsten mineralization potential across the Selwyn Basin and northern Cassiar Platform within the Northern Canadian Cordillera (NCC) in Yukon. The main goal of this research project is to better understand and identify the age, composition, and spatial distribution of tungsten-associated magmas in the Selwyn Basin and northern Cassiar Platform using zircon inheritance (U-Pb measurement of inherited zircon cores), and different isotope systems, particularly neodymium isotopes. There are two key research questions to be addressed in this project: 1) why is the world-class tungsten metallogeny in the NCC apparently restricted to the Canadian Tungsten Belt (Cantung, Mactung, and Lened deposits), despite the existence of compositionally and petrogenetically prospective granitic magmatism across the Selwyn Basin and northern Cassiar Platform, and 2) are other plutonic suites prospective for substantial tungsten mineralization that are unrecognised by current exploration models? It is envisaged that the outcomes of this project will provide information on why some plutonic suites are metal-rich, and better predict which regions in the NCC are prospective for additional tungsten discoveries, including those with other metal tenors (e.g., Cu, Mo, Pb, Zn, Au, Sn). The project will involve fieldwork in Yukon and lab work at different labs using archival and newly collected samples, analysing samples and interpreting the acquired data, and ultimately publishing the results.
