**Description**

Reporting to the Research Program Manager.

The Clinical Research Assistant (CRA) provides research support services to a wide range of clinical research projects. The main task of the CRA will be recruitment of participants into multiple clinical trials.

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Submit, modify and renew research studies to the local research ethics board using IRISS
- Maintain records of all study materials including protocols, informed consent forms, questionnaires, renewals, modifications etc
- Assist local principal investigators in developing study protocols and study materials for investigator-initiated studies
- Submit research studies to AHS. Obtain appropriate AHS approvals in order to access AHS resources and data
- Ensure research studies comply with the Health Information Act, AHS guidelines and ethics approved protocols
- Participate in and coordinate start-up visits (as required)
- Approach and consent patients / families into studies
- Educate patients / families on all aspects of the clinical trials and associated disease process to achieve fully informed participant consent throughout the study duration
- Maintain screening and enrollment logs for numerous studies
- Collect and complete case report forms (CRFs) and study data. De-identify all study data
- Deliver protocol-related assessments and evaluations to achieve all trial-related outcomes in a safe, effective and timely manner
- Train healthcare providers on study processes and procedures (as required)
- Complete follow-up visits or phone calls with study participants as well as obtain regained capacity consents (as required) Promote compliance through continuous education, support and monitoring of trial participants

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Bachelors Degree in a health-related field required
- Minimum 2 years of related experience
- Experience recruiting participants for clinical research studies
- Experience following study procedures as laid out in study protocols
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and advanced internet skills
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Familiar with the Health Information Act, TCPS-2 guidelines, ethics guidelines and AHSs policies around the conduct of research
- Working understanding of medical terminology
- Ability to problem solve in complex situations
- Experience with local data systems, including Metavision and Sunrise Clinical Manager an asset
- Experience with IRISS and AHS systems, to obtain necessary approvals to conduct research studies an asset
- Understanding of Health Canada guidelines for clinical trials
- GCP training and SOCRA certification an asset
- Experience in an intensive care unit or similar environment an asset
- Access to a vehicle will be required as there will be travel between all four hospitals in Calgary
- A valid Class 5 driver¿s license with proven good driving record (abstract required)
