**Job description**

Watari is opening a wellness space for residents in the Downtown Eastside and surrounding communities to access healthcare, cultural and wellness programming, and Indigenous Food Sovereignty at 320 Alexander Street.

We are looking for a Community Programming Coordinator to play a key role in establishing and coordinating on-going programming, site safety, and general support at 320 Alexander Street. This is a full-time (35 hours per week) position which works in collaboration with all staff at 320 Alexander Street. The Community Programming Coordinator will help organize and hold space for the cultural programming at 320 Alexander, including weekly talking circles, language classes, beading classes, and more. The Community Programming Coordinator will also organize onboarding and orientation, training sessions, and continued support for peer community workers so they can be successful in their roles at 320 Alexander Street. The successful applicant will also support data collection, budget management, report creation, and other information requirements.

The successful applicant shall be familiar with the Constitution, Code of Ethics, and Oath of Confidentiality of Watari Counselling and Support Services, and thereby subscribe to its philosophies, standards, and objectives. They shall also maintain a working knowledge of the Watari Policy and Procedures Manual.

**Duties and responsibilities**:

- Provide honest, respectful care and develop trusting relationships with vulnerable communities using 320 Alexander Street.
- Work collaboratively with various professionals and as a member of a team.
- Model and promote Cultural Safety, supporting staff in de-escalation and peacekeeping.
- Support programs, supplies, meetings, events, and training.
- Prepare and provide reports and documents for meetings as needed.
- Organize schedule for training sessions covering various topics for staff.
- Create a Health & Safety plan, policies and procedures for 320 Alexander Street.
- Support the safety plan for shared common spaces, including washrooms, kitchen, cafeteria, and showers at 320 Alexander Street.
- Provide onboarding presentations for peers.
- Advise on community peer workers' job descriptions to align with 320 Alexander Street's safety planning.
- Create a directory with the names of the trainers and the companies they were providing training to.Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all conversations, referrals and documents.
- Participate in clinical supervision meetings.
- Attend agency training as required.
- Submit required paperwork promptly.
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities as needed.

**Skills and qualifications requirements for applicants**:

- Extensive experience working with residents in the Downtown Eastside and extensive knowledge about the needs and realities of these people and the issues they face.
- Extensive experience working with Indigenous peoples and migrant communities, and extensive knowledge about Indigenous peoples’ cultural practices, migrant populations histories, and the issues they face and have faced, (e.g., colonialism, residential/day schools, the 1960s, trauma, displacement, etc.).
- Extensive experience working with Trans-gender, Two-Spirit, and other 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, youth, and Elders.
- Knowledgeable about Trans-gender, Two-Spirit, and other 2SLGBTQIA+ cultures, issues, and histories.
- Experience working in community outreach/development/support services, social services, mental health services, cultural and/or wellness programming, or in a related role.
- Ability to gain confidence, trust, and respect from community members and members of committees.
- Ability to work as an effective leader and cooperative team member.
- Experience with conflict resolution and excellent mediation skills.
- Strong organization, time management, and general management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, independently, and with mínimal supervision.
- Excellent problem-solving and leadership skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize workload and occasionally work under pressure to ensure cyclical deadlines are met.
- Ability to maintain emotional distance from committee members, while recognizing boundaries and respecting them.
- Ability to work occasionally during the evenings and weekends, depending on priorities.
- A Driver’s license is an asset. (Class 5)
- Successful criminal record check. (updated every 5 years)
