VAFCS manages multiple programs and services through three locations in Vancouver. It is a community-led organization creating meaningful change for the Urban Aboriginal population we serve. **Job Summary**:
The Accounting Coordinator ensures that the regular processing of financial documents and payroll are completed efficiently and correctly. The position will also be responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and company credit cards. Other responsibilities will include assisting the Accounting Manager with the audit process, budgets, reporting, reconciliations and compliance. The Accounting Clerk will report to the Accounting Manager.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Accounts Management**
- Follow the documented system of accounting policies & procedures
- Support operations of the accounting department, including control systems, transaction-processing operations, policies and procedures

**Accounting Transactions**
- Process payroll, payroll entries, maintain digital copies and hardcopies
- Process Group Benefits
- Maintain accounts payable, rental and eviction payments as well as cheque-runs
- Process invoices for vendors
- Maintain databases and spreadsheets
- Posts journal entries into the accounting system
- Perform bank reconciliations
- Union dues reporting and payment to BCGEU
- WCB quarterly reports and payments
- Maintain prepaids

Reporting & Compliance
- Assist in preparing reports to senior management, board of directors and external parties
- Maintain orderly filing systems of vendors of payables
- Assist with working papers

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Diploma or degree in accounting or other related field
- Minimum 3-5 years accounting/payroll experience preferably in a non-profit organization
- Effective communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work with rapidly shifting priorities and schedules
- Effective time-management, organizational and follow-up skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and deal with multiple concurrent tasks
- Proactive and innovative with an “improvement seeking” orientation
- Demonstrated attention to detail and customer service skills.
- Experience with the MS suite of products like Excel, Word, SharePoint, etc.
- Experience with Sage 50, or other accounting system
- Experience processing payroll for a unionized workforce

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

**Salary**: $30.00 per hour
