Organizational Development Specialist

Join a vibrant people-focused team in an exciting time of change in an organization that makes a difference The BC SPCA is a dynamic organization with facilities and services across the province of BC. This position reports to the Chief People Officer and will be primarily responsible for helping the organization navigate it’s robust strategic planning process as well as administer its budding leadership development program. You will be part of a larger, bustling team that also performs volunteer resources and various other exciting people support duties.
In this role, you will collaborate with stakeholders to manage the BC SPCA’s strategic planning process over a two-year period. This includes project management activities such as: logistics, data collection and synthesis, facilitation, communication plans, progress reports, implementation, etc.
Outside of the strategic planning process, you will also lead cohorts of managers through the BC SPCA’s various Leadership Development Programs, with a view to establishing a culture of continuous learning, ensuring learning goals are met and making recommendations for improvement.
**Some specific duties include**:
**Strategic Planning**:
- Manages the process to develop the BC SPCA’s strategic plan in partnership with the CEO and Board of Directors, and with the support of the Senior Leadership Team and external consultants.
- Provides input into analysis of organizational strategy from all angles - programmatic, infrastructure, development and communications perspectives.
- Researches and recommends innovative ways of identifying stakeholder groups and collecting data.
- Conducts an environmental scan to inform strategic planning decision-making.
- May include ensuring assessments of specific community needs are included/completed as part of the process.
- Facilitates internal and external engagement activities to solicit input into the plan.
- Ensures consultation is done in way that is in keeping with the BC SPCA’s Foundational Principles for Equity, Diversity and Reconciliation; may provide recommendations to enhance this aspect of consultation.
- Actively looks for ways to build opportunities for cross-functional understanding/collaboration between stakeholder groups as appropriate.
- Drafts the plan in partnership with the CEO for approval by the Board of Directors.
- Provides input into communication and implementation strategies/plans.
- Provides recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team on best practices and practical solutions for monitoring and measuring organization-wide and team-level progress against the strategic plan; including providing input on improving current data collection and reporting mechanisms.
- Ensures all aspects of the strategic plan process reinforce the guiding principles and demonstrate alignment between department goals, strategic objectives and the BC SPCA mission.
- Serves as a liaison to governance volunteers to cultivate their input into, understanding of and commitment to the Society’s vision, mission, guiding principles and the strategic plan.
- Manages the strategic planning process budget, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of expenditures.
- Leadership Development:
Actively manages the BC SPCA’s Leadership Development Program(s)
Assists in planning and delivery of Leadership Development Days as required and if time allows provided above-noted duties are on track.
**Qualifications you need to have**:
- University degree Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related discipline plus 8 years’ related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the Employer.

u. Systems dynamics and systems theory
v. Program assessment and evaluation
w. First Nations consultation
x. Leadership coaching
- Previous experience working in a nonprofit, multi-location and/or unionized environment would be considered an asset.
- Excellent communication, public speaking and presentation skills and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders at all levels and from diverse backgrounds in a positive, respectful and non-judgmental manner.
- Strategic and creative thinker with a strong focus on process and continuous improvement.
