Shelter Cleaning Staff - permanent part-time.

Marillac Place offers housing to women who are pregnant, have children under the age of two or are
attempting to regain care of their child. Marillac Place can accommodate children up to the age of two
years of age. Residence is permitted for up to 364 days.

Marillac Place provides new mothers and mothers-to-be facing homelessness in Waterloo Region by
providing a safe living environment, support in parenting and life skills and developing supportive
relationships.

Our vision is every mother and child facing homelessness in Waterloo Region has the opportunity to
recover and rebuild to ensure a successful future.

The Shelter Cleaning Staff position will be responsible for ensuring the residence maintains a high
standard of cleanliness.

Marillac Place employees are expected to demonstrate respect, empathy and accountability to the
people who access our services. This position you will be exposed and have contact with participants
struggling with addiction and their mental health.

Key responsibilities include:

To provide standard residential cleaning including cleaning, disinfecting, vacuuming, sweeping,
mopping, scrubbing common areas and bedrooms upon departure.

Surfaces include floors, stairs, furniture, walls, windows, garbage and diaper genies.
Deep cleaning areas when necessary.
Move in/out cleaning of bedrooms.
Ensure a clean and hygienic environment which may include cleaning up bodily fluid and waste

at times.
Ensure confidentiality and privacy of participants during performance of duties.
Ensure timely and effective communication with the staff team.
Friendliness with staff and participants.
Cleaning of offices in main house and coach house.

Requirements include:

Some understanding of chemicals and equipment used in cleaning.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions with a CLB minimum of 5.
Ability to perform lift techniques and lift weights up to 30 pounds.
Basic knowledge of housekeeping and the ability to perform independently without supervision.
Attention to detail and organized with good time management skills.
Friendly, reliable, and punctual.
Enjoys cleaning, willing to learn.
Hold a current certificate in First Aid and CPR and WHIMIS.
Experience in the health care or social service field preferred.
Able to provide a recent vulnerable sector criminal reference check (within 3 months).
Vaccine verification - as a condition of employment you are required to provide confirmation

that you have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or have proof of valid exemption satisfactory
to the employer or will be required to submit written proof verifying medical exemption and
agree to rapid testing.

In support of the staff and participants, Marillac Place has an immunization requirement for all
Code, they will be required to provide to submit written proof verifying the medical reason or by
submitting a request under the Ontario Human Rights Code and agree to regular rapid testing. When
documentation has been received and approved Marillac place will provide accommodation up to the
point of undue hardship in compliance with the Code and may follow up to receive further information
and or documentation as required.

Working Conditions

Hours are flexible but are required to meet operational requirements.
5 hours daily / 25 hours weekly (Sunday to Thursday)
Extra hours may be required for deep cleaning bedrooms between intakes and departures.

Hourly rate: $20.00 to $23.00
Benefits after probationary period (6 months)
