- Reporting to the Associate Director, Student Affairs, the Indigenous Student Support Navigator is responsible for providing outreach and guidance to prospective and current self-identified Indigenous students. The Indigenous Student Support Navigator will work closely with the Indigenous Student Services Team to connect Indigenous students to Douglas College student service departments and Faculties and local community resources.
- The Navigator will promote access, success and retention through a capacity-building process where Indigenous students receive the support they need to learn to navigate the post-secondary system and access the institutional and community supports available.**Responsibilities**

**1. Indigenous Student Support and Engagement**
a. Collaborates with internal and external partners to identify supports, develop engagement strategies and obtain input in the development and implementation of wrap‐around support services;
b. Makes and receives referrals, when appropriate and follows up to ensure referral accuracy, as appropriate;
c. Identifies students at risk or in crisis and proactively connects students with the appropriate resources and supports;
d. Advocates for students who may have unique life experiences or situations that fall outside normal processes practices or policies;
e. Facilitates small and large group meetings and workshops for Indigenous students on Douglas programs, services and opportunities (e.g., student life, student services, etc.);
f. Promotes Indigenous student participation and active engagement in activities such as community events that serve Indigenous students, orientations, workshops, Douglas Students’ Union clubs and initiatives supporting Health and Wellness;
g. Develops new student orientation materials and delivers a variety of orientation information to individuals and/or groups;
h. Works closely with Student Life to provide new student orientation activities, events and services for Indigenous Students;
i. In consultation with the Indigenous Student Coordinator, develops a schedule of Elder in-Residence visits and assists the Elder in providing culturally appropriate programming for students;
j. Develops, plans and organizes Indigenous student engagement activities, including evening/weekend activities and special events to recognize national days/weeks/months of significance for Indigenous community members, and for the College community’s Indigenization goals;
k. Initiates, implements and coordinates activities, programs and services that enhance Indigenous students’ engagement, sense of belonging at the College, and holistic wellness.**2. Program Review**
a. Reviews and implements best practices in Indigenous student support based on Indigenous ways of knowing and student development theory;
b. Consults with, reports, and makes recommendations to internal stakeholders on issues that affect the recruitment, challenges, administrative barriers, retention and success of Indigenous students;
c. Collaborates with Student Life to review, design and implement mentorship programs, Student Affairs support programs and interventions aimed at improving retention of Indigenous students, including collaborative initiatives with communities and/or Faculties.
- **3. Promotion and Outreach**
- a. Builds and maintains relationships with key internal stakeholders such as Enrolment Services, Learning Centre, Counselling, Accessibility Service, Student Life, and the DSU;
b. Responds to requests for information about Indigenous Student Services and supports;
c. Works closely with the SAS Communication Officer to plan, implement and evaluate marketing for Indigenous Student Services events and programs;
d. Contributes to the creation or updating of brochures, posters, media guides to promote Indigenous student recruitment;
e. Works closely with the Future Students’ Office to provide: outreach services to Indigenous organizations, and institutions (e.g. career fairs, recruitment events, etc.), by making presentations to individuals, small and large groups and from education fair booths, on Douglas College programs and courses;
f. Develops and emphasizes partnerships through interdepartmental activities and events; co-sponsor or assist appropriate events and activities sponsored by College offices and departments.**4. Administration and Operations**
a. Uses knowledge of systems, policies, procedures and exercises professional judgement to solve unusual or complex problems;
b. Updates
