Toronto, Canada The Globe and Mail Full time

**COMPANY OVERVIEW**:
The Globe and Mail is a national icon and one of Canada's most recognized media brands. We proudly serve as a trusted destination for Canadians seeking the highest caliber of journalism, and we've garnered international acclaim for our data visualization, design, and creative storytelling.
We are committed to fostering diversity and inclusivity by reflecting all Canadians in both the stories that we tell and the composition of our workforce. Recognizing the importance of work-life balance, we offer flexible work arrangements and support programs. We also invest in our employees' growth through training and mentorship opportunities, enabling you to expand your skills and embrace new challenges.
No matter your position at The Globe, you'll be an integral part of an organization dedicated to making a positive difference in Canada. Join us.
**POSITION OVERVIEW**:
The Globe and Mail is seeking a Theatre Reporter to join our Arts team.
Globe readers value the arts and they require intelligent, persuasive recommendations about not just serious drama but also larger, commercial productions.
In addition to criticism, this beat will require you to know the ins and outs and the major players (the actors, the donors and other key stakeholders) in theatre.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Report and write stories in a variety of formats. At the peak of theatre season you would be expected to write several reviews a week.
- Provide short recommendations through the year and contribute to seasonal previews.
- See many more shows than you write about to have a good sense of what’s happening in theatre internationally (whenever possible) and in this country.
- Pitch reported story ideas including profiles and smaller news items for multiple platforms.
- Work with colleagues across the department and wider newsroom to brainstorm story ideas as well as the best way to tell them

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- At least five years of experience reporting for a media organization. While we would love someone to have a few years of criticism chops, it is crucial that you are passionate about theatre.
- You are always watching, reading and listening to something.
- You should be able to make connections between the arts and the world we live in.
- Your prose is witty and smart and helps illuminate theatre for not just those who are steeped in it but also those who may just take in one show a year.

**APPLICATION**: Please submit a cover letter with your resume.
**SALARY**: This position is classified as a Reporter in Group C of the Editorial Collective Agreement.
**WHY CHOOSE THE GLOBE**:
The Globe’s mission is to deliver essential content - news, information, analysis and insights - for aspiring individuals and strong communities. The Globe is committed to providing a respectful and inclusive workplace that upholds our values of integrity, collaboration, innovation and accountability.
As Canada’s most respected media brand The Globe is dedicated to making a difference to Canada and you can make a difference by working with us.
**WE OFFER**:

- Competitive compensation to ensure we hire, retain and reward team members
- Hybrid work environment that promotes work-life balance
- Generous vacation and flexible work arrangements
- Parental leave top-up
- Competitive health and dental benefits
- Defined Benefit pension plan
- Annual wellness subsidy
- On-site chiropractor and registered massage therapist
- Employee and family assistance program
- Education assistance for external training courses

**SUPPORTING YOUR GROWTH**:

- We are committed to creating equitable opportunities for all employees, to enable everyone to reach their full potential. This commitment is embedded in our strategic plan and core values.
- There are lateral and upward advancement opportunities for rewarding and developing careers.
- We believe in mentorship and collaborative peer-to-peer learning and have both formal and informal programs in place to encourage knowledge-sharing.
- We support continuing education and provide both internal and external opportunities for training and development.

**VACCINATION POLICY**:
THE GLOBE AND MAIL IS DEDICATED TO DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION IN THE WORKPLACE
The Globe and Mail offers accommodation for applicants with disabilities as part of its recruitment process. If you are contacted to arrange for an interview, please advise us if you require an accommodation.
