Director of Life Enhancement

**Summary**
The Director of Life Enhancement, under the direction of the General Manager, is responsible for the successful planning and implementation of programs and activities that meet resident’s physical, emotional, social, spiritual and intellectual needs within available resources in a manner that enriches their life experience, provides choice and promotes individual growth.
The incumbent is expected to use a collaborative approach to coordinate and integrate programs, address resident needs and preferences. In addition, they are to strive for excellence through monitoring, evaluation, innovation and intention.
**Job Duties**
**Program Development & Implementation**:
- Plan, develop and implement a comprehensive range of programs and activities designed to meet resident’s physical, emotional, social, spiritual and intellectual needs
- Collaborate with residents, families and staff to identify interests, preferences and needs and then use that information to tailor programs accordingly and optimize involvement
- Ensure programs and activities are effectively coordinated and communicated
**Team Member Supervision & Training**:
- Train, direct, supervise and evaluate program staff and volunteers
- Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance competencies in program planning, communication and resident engagement
- Foster a positive and supportive work environment that encourages creativity, collaboration and teamwork among program staff
**Budget Management**:
- Develop and manage the program budget, including allocation of funds for supplies, equipment and special events
- Monitor expenses and identify cost-effective strategies to maximize resources and optimize the quality and variety of programs offered to residents
- Seek external funding and community partnerships to supplement the program budget and enhance program offerings
**Evaluation and Quality Improvement**:
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and activities through resident feedback, observation and outcome measures
- Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance program quality, diversity and resident satisfaction
- Stay abreast of trends and best practices in resident programming and incorporate new ideas as appropriate
**Interdisciplinary Collaboration**:
- Collaborate with other members of the interdisciplinary team, including nursing and food services to coordinate and integrate programs with overall resident care plans
- Participate in care planning meetings and interdisciplinary rounds to address resident needs and preferences related to socialization, recreation and leisure activities
**Perform Other Duties as Assigned**
**Qualifications**
- A post secondary degree or diploma in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from a college or university
- 3 years of experience in management and planning, implementation and evaluation of programs
- Successfully pass a Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check
- Licenced to drive up to 15 passenger bus to transport people
- 3-5 years’ experience in senior living with specialized knowledge of Gerontology would be considered an asset
- Current Standard and/or Emergency First Aid and CPR Certification
**Skills and Abilities**
- Strong people management skills including the ability to guide, motivate and supervise a diverse team while also being able to delegate tasks effectively
- Demonstrate patience, understanding, and able to connect with both residents and their families
- Able to think quickly, adapt to changing situations, and resolve issues efficiently
- Possess excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks, manage budgets and ensure the smooth operation of the department
